When we arrived at site we headed to reception to check in. As we had an
Exclusive Holiday home we were able to check in from 1pm and the welcome team
were very friendly and explained where everything was in the park and what
facilities we had access to.
We made our way to the holiday home and were taken aback by how nice it was from
the outside, we thought that if the inside was as nice as the outside we knew
were going to enjoy this and we were not disappointed in any way.
We were expecting great views when we went in and we got exactly that, panoramic
views of the beach and dunes were stunning and this could be enjoyed from both
inside and outside the accommodation. Outside had a lovely decked area with
seating provided and a BBQ. The BBQ was not there when we arrived, however a
quick call to reception and we soon had this delivered, top service.
Inside the holiday home we were greeted with a lovely welcome pack including
some fruit juice, muffins, chocolates, crisps and some cookies, this was a great
touch. We found the accommodation to be very clean and well looked after and the
kitchen area was fully equipped with all the utensils and bits you need. It was
a modern design with modern features and a really comfy sofa for those evening
relaxing after enjoying the area.
On the subject of the area, the site is located perfectly for reaching the award
winning Woolacombe Beach and all the local towns and villages and walks along
the coastal path. You can walk to the beach or take advantage of the hourly bus
service which runs you down there or you can take the bus to use the facilities
at the three other parks in the group.
Back to the site, they offer so many facilities that if you wanted to you do not
even have to leave the park. They have this year opened their brand new £4
million leisure complex which houses the bar, entertainment area, pool tables,
bowling, etc. Upstairs is a large entertainment area with bar and kids bar and
they hold the usual holiday park entertainment in the evenings which are great
for all the family and the entertainment team were enthusiastic and very
The new complex has been designed with a modern feel and makes for a relaxing
environment where you can sit outside in the large outdoor area and soak up the
amazing views on offer. They provide a great menu should you not wish to cook
for yourself and the prices were very reasonable too. Drinks are a fair price
too, we paid £8 for a white wine spritzer and lager and they offered a good
choice of mainstream drinks and snacks.
There is a large children's play area on site meaning you can let the younger
ones in your party burn off any excess energy whilst you sit back and relax and
keep an eye on them. There is also mini golf on site which is great fun for all
They have a couple of pools, one outside which was a good size with plenty of
seats of loungers to relax poolside. There is also an indoor pool plus a
children's pool which was perfect should the weather not be as good as it could
There is an excellent well equipped gym on site with all the facilities you
would expect for your workout but there is a small extra cost to use these
There is a fair sized supermarket on site and the prices were very reasonable
and this is a real bonus to top up your shopping without having to leave the
park for the local Tesco, etc.
There is a launderette with washing and ironing facilities which is useful for
those sandy towels and swimming costumes, etc.
The Old Mill pub is local and we ate there and the food was delicious with a
wide range on the menu catering for all tastes. They offer a wide selection of
drinks whether you like real ale, lager, wine, or soft drinks.
We absolutely loved our stay here and this site gets a huge thumbs up from us
and we will 100% be returning next year and feel this site, with use of the
other three sites facilities, will be on our holiday list of places to stay for
years to come. Well done all the team Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks.
Read our Review of Golden Coast
Holiday Park from June 2015
We wanted to visit the area for the No 1 – Best Beach in Britain, Woolacombe
Sands Beach, so we opted for Golden Coast Holiday Park which is only a few
minutes drive away.
Upon arrival check in was smooth and efficient and gave us our keys and off we
went. They did not show us on the map where the accommodation was, however the
site is well signposted and with the map in hand we had no problem finding the
We opted for a two storey, two bedroom villa as these are dog friendly and great
when you have the kids. The accommodation was large and fully equipped with a
TV, sofa, table and chairs, full kitchen including microwave, pots, pans,
cutlery, etc, a decent sized bathroom and two good sized bedrooms, one with a
double, the other with two singles and two bunk beds, so there was plenty of
room for all.
The villa was dated but as we were using it as base to visit the area and enjoy
the facilities on the park, this did not bother us and it was fully functioning
and perfect. Each villa also had a picnic table to enjoy the sunshine.
The park itself has everything you can think of, 2 Indoor & 2 Outdoor Heated
Pools, Water Park, Slides, Flume & Terrace, Kiddy Karts, climbing wall, crazy
golf, wave machine, high wire ropes, pool tables, snooker table, sports bar,
family bar, takeaway restaurant, ten pin bowling, golf course, dog walk, outdoor
play areas, plus so much more.
The swimming pools were nice and if you get there early enough you can get in
there whilst it is quiet, however if you want inflatables and fun then head
there later in the day.
There is a huge shop on site selling all your essentials and it is not that
expensive. They also have a gift shop selling souvenirs and the usual stuff.
There is a large Tesco in Ilfracombe, not too far away.
The park is also grouped with three other parks and they supply a bus service
that runs between them all and you can use all the facilities at all four parks
once you have your wrist band on. The bus service also runs you down to the
The main entertainment area has a bar serving a range of good drinks plus food
and also a kids 'bar' selling toys, games, etc. They have entertainment each
evening which is the usual holiday park entertainment and was enjoyable for a
There is free wifi in the main areas however I struggled to get good speeds from
it and you do get a paid for service but we did not try that as we could not
pick up the signal in our villa. I did wander down to the Old Mill pub on the
edge of the site and bought myself a drink and used their wifi which was quick
and useful to use.
On the subject of the Old Mill we ate there one evening and the food was
awesome, the service from ordering to getting the food was really quick and was
very very nice. Not the cheapest place, but great food and drinks.
The area has lots on offer from Ilfracome, Coombe Martin, Barnstaple and miles
and miles of cliff walks and beaches. Our favourite beach by far is the award
winning Woolacombe Sands and we managed to park in the car park on Marine Drive
in the afternoon for just £2 for as long as we liked, other car parks were
charging £5 plus but were closer to the shops, main hub of the beach. Croyde
beach down the road is also stunning and we spent a lovely afternoon chilling
Overall this is a wicked holiday park and has everything for kids of all ages
and adults too wishing to use it as a base for the area. I would visit again and
indeed plan to.
