“Thermartex” is an abbreviation of “thermally reflective textiles” and is the trade name for a new company based in the south of England. The company supplies materials designed for a wide range of commercial and military applications. The “bedding blanket” is the launch product.
The Bedding Blanket It can be used on it's own or on top of other bedding and
is suitable for use in any dry environment both indoors and outdoors.
Measuring approximately 1.5m x 2m and weighing only 125g the aluminized
woven rip-stop nylon blanket is highly breathable and reflects 65% of
radiated body heat.
It is ideal where thermal performance, weight and packing size are
important. It is primarily intended for use as a camping blanket, travel
blanket, sleeping bag or normal bed cover, but has many other applications.
It is not suitable for use as a Emergency/Survival blanket.
What did we think?
The product arrived very quickly from date of order. The blanket comes
supplied in a box and is well presented and is a suitable size to fold the
blanket back up and reuse the packaging. The blanket is made from a thin
material that is easy to fold up and it packs away into a small bundle to
save on space.
As I wasn't due to go camping for a while, I used the Thermartex blanket overnight in the house, without any other form of duvet or sheets. I slept all night and could notice the Thermartex was holding some heat in. I hope to try it again next time I camp, as the manufacturer reports he has slept outside (in a tent) at minus 4 degrees C wearing only shorts and covered only by a Thermartex blanket!
If you have plenty of space when packing, it may be no more useful than a normal blanket, however if space is at a premium then this could be ideal. This will stay in my camping box for use when away.
