I bought some plastic stacking drawers yesterday in a plastic frame to go into the wardrobe of our 91 pullman, but they don't fit!! Grrr, I thought I was being clever and just assumed they would fit as I had seen a photo on here where someone had done the same. Guess older models have smaller wardrobes! The actual drawers are 34cm across, then another 5cm or so for the frame!

Our wardrobe opening is kind of cut out, so the actual opened space is only 28cm across, would these fit instead?

agros drawers

Say 25cm across, but doesn't say if it's 25 with frame, or 25cm for drawers!

Also looking at the agros ones it looks like you connect each strut to the plasic base, whereas the one I got had the base and struts as one piece, so the agros one might be easier to fit inside too?

What a waste of £15, because of the way they dismantle I don't even think we could fit them in the camper broken down and use in the awning as I'm not sure how I would store them away, as mentioned the drawer bases have the legs struts attached!

When we had a Cruiser we hung one of those canvas shelf things.inside it...worked a treat. Can't do links, but they are number 4 on page 1402 of the Argos catalogue.

We did consider one of those but ideally we want to use the wardobe as a food larder, so we need something more sturdy

Thanks. Looking at the Q&A on the agros website in seems the drawers are around 21cm wide, so it should be ok.

I have about a tenner in nectar points so will use that towards them and if no good I'll test out argos return policy!

I looked at the plastic drawers idea for our Pathfinder but decided that as the actual door opening is so small, I would lose too much space getting a unit that would fit through the opening, so instead I have lined the inside of the wardrobe with 3 lots of 1" by 1/2" runners and shelved the inside. This gives me 4 large shelves.

As for the Larder, we use a canvas larder unit but backed the hardboard/vinyl covered shelves that come with the unit, with 8mm Ply. This makes it strong enough for all our food supplies and it sits on the locker immediately inside the main door.

Because this unit has exterior bars, we hang an awning 4 hook clothes hanger there and have our outdoor jackets right by the door.

It all works out rather well.

we initially went down this path last year but after a couple of holidays ,realised that as we always use the awning and have three large double camping shelves/cupboards to use in awning ,the built in wardrobe was a waste of time ,so i have removed it completely and store it in the garage in case of a future sale of the unit .we now just put the plastic drawers on the base unit ,don't throw away them large ones dubs .
we have also found that removing the wardrobe gives a immense amount of storage area where it used to be .

We bought our shelves for crusader from B & Q and although we had to dismantle to build inside it works well and when on site we rebuild it in awning freeing up the wardrobe again!

I measured up my wardrobe space for the purpose of putting plastic drawers in it myself a couple of days ago. Reading this thread has made me have a bit of a rethink. I may still go down that route and deffo don't want to remove the wardrobe (the dog food has to be kept at a height they can't reach!). I now have a few more ideas to work with so thanks!

I bought plastic drawers too however I bought really cheap ones from B and M and they kept falling apart which drove me mad.  currently I am just using plastic boxes in there but need to sort something.

as we often don't bother with the awning and also don't unpack much if just the two of us camping for a few days, we really don't need to use the wardrobe for clothes so it is great for keeping the food in.

Daft question but which way does the rail go as I am not sure if one of those hanging cloth shelves would work?

if you have a older pennine with a small 28cm opening in the wardobe don't bother with the narrow argos drawers - they are way to narrow and look pathetic!!

So we now have TWO sets of drawers that don't fit!!

I'm taking them back tomorrow and will say my daft husband didn't look at the measurements and they are too small. Hope I get the money back.

Short of putting in shelves ourself we don't think we'll find anything on the market that will fit snuggly and fitting shelves will be a mare as the outside wood is only ply and we don't want to end up ruining the wardrobe. So idea #3 is to get this from IKEA

Hanging storage

It's 30cm wide so will fit in with a few cm either side and not swing forwards as the opening is 28cm. It doesn't quite fill the whole space so we can store jars and tins of food at the bottom and it has handy little storeage pockets on the sides of the lower shelves.

I think I'll need to reinforce the bit which straps round the wardrobe rail as it will have all of our dried food stored in it, but I think it'll work ok. At a later date I might buy the slot in drawers for it, but we'll see how we get on without 1st.

I think this will be the best option and it also means it can be folded away to store other things in the wardrobe when in transit (my set of drawers that were too large to fit broken down and will then be kept in the awning!)

Goodness who would have thought it would be this hard!

We used these hanging shelves when we had the TT and hung them on the awning roof poles, they were fine, but in the FC wardrobe, the wardrobe rail is only held in place by 4 (2 each side) screws and I would not want to hang anything other that a few jackets on it.

The shelves I put in (see above) I reinforced by glueing in 2 vertical 1" by 1.2" to each glued runner on each of the 2 sides and one at the back.

The front of each shelf also has a runner but this is screwed to the shelf and the to angle brackets to the sides making each shelf sitting on a runner all round.

Because everything apart from the brackets, is only glued to the original wardrobe and because the original hanging rail is now stowed away, I could return the wardrobe to its original spec when I sell on the FC.

When travelling, I unpack the wardrobe contents into boxes that lay on the FC floor and only our pillows then go into the wardrobe for travelling.

Indeed, whilst I have done a number of mods to our FC, everything apart from the extra sockets can be removed and the whole FC returned to original spec.

Like blackfox, we removed the cupboard altogether ...
Mosaic tiled the top, and have a superb extra working surface.
Larders etc go in the awning.
The huge plus is the extra storage space when traveling ... as no cupboard lying down the centre.

We use one of those on a rail at present, and its surprisingly sturdy. The drawers that go in it are good as well. I like Ikea!
