Earlier this month we bought our first tt, did plenty of research as to what we needed for our family of 6 and what would fit our budget.

We found a Trigano Cheverny on eBay that looked great and was described as being in 'excellent' condition, 2003 model with all curtains and linings etc. The seller also listed its faults which were simply cosmetic although played down significantly in the listing!

The sale was initially an auction but we asked if he would accept a buy it now price, he agreed on the condition we could collect the next day! We went ahead. It was raining when we collected and we did our best to have a look at it with the owners help. All seemed ok and the seller was very nice and helpful and even threw in a few extras. We paid in cash.

A couple of weeks ago, the weather was dry enough for us to get everything off and check it all over. On closer inspection there are more faults than we were told or saw, but again they are cosmetic and I have been working hard sewing, sanding and cleaning! We also believe it is actually a 1999 model rather than 2003!

Anyway, at this point we also realised the awning curtains and linings were not with the tent. We contacted the seller immediately, and eventually got confirmation that he did still have them as they had been removed for washing and not put back on. He said he would post them onto us. We did offer to collect them but had no response.

We still haven't received them, despite calling the seller and being told he had posted them. We have repeatedly asked for evidence of postage and a tracking number, which we were told he had, but he is now ignoring our texts, phone calls and eBay messages.

It is looking increasingly doubtful as to whether we will see our linings or receive any compensation for not having them, although we are trying to find out our options.

In the meantime, can anyone tell me how or where I can buy some replacement linings (including kitchen and wardrobe area) and curtains?

We are so upset by all of this and feel sick that we have been deceived in this manner, especially as the money spent was a lot for us. We want to really enjoy our tt this summer but this has kind of put a shadow over all of that. I would love to get the linings sorted out asap and put this mess behind us so any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Sorry to hear of your problems Jo. It might be worth joining the Trigano owners group on Yahoo to see if anyone can sell you some curtains etc or perhaps even lend you some to copy. There is also a list of serial numbers so you can date your outfit.

Thanks Rob, we have joined the group and asked for help on there too.

We've contacted Camperlands who think they can help with curtains but not the linings. We've also contacted Black Country Caravans who are going to get back to us. Worried this is going to end up being too expensive to sort out. I could probably make some curtains, but really need the linings.

We've also spoken to Trading Standards about the issue who are also getting back to us. Its all a mess and I just want to cry.

Don't lose heart Jo. When it's all sorted you and the kids will have a great time.

When we bought our Trigano I bought it from a dealer so I wouldn't have any hassle. I paid the deposit on a sunday and on the monday morning the firm went into liquidation and I didn't know about it until I read about it on here. We did get the unit eventually but it did ruin the excitement and pleasure of getting a new (to us) outfit.

You could also try OBI in Cowbridge, they used to supply Trigano and get spares in so they may have some old bits left over. Ian and Sarah at OBI are very helpful and may be able to steer you in the right direction.

The linings are just cotton from what I can remember, do you need the awning lining or the bedroom linings? The awning ceiling lining could be made with a couple of thick cotton bed sheets fitted with hooks to fix to the frame. Bedroom linings are often available on ebay from people breaking trailer tents with damaged canvas, linings from other makes of trailer could probably be made to fit fairly easily. It may not be as expensive as you fear.

Give TVS a ring as I am sure they will sort you out, depending on price.

To late now, but never buy a TT until you have seen it up so you can inspect it properly.

We are selling our TT, but I wouldn`t let the buyer pay for it until they had seen up so there would no problems at a later date.

If I remember the tent shop will be opening in march, they usually have a few spares in. Think it's early march, might be worth trying them, adlo known as Burcroft camping.

Best regards,

Tony.

Some people are just awful...don't suppose you can dispute through ebay either if you paid cash either?

We recently sold our FC and I pointed out everything that was minutely wrong with it.

Hope you can get something sorted.

We have contacted TVS but they couldn't help, we contacted a similar company local to us and they quoted 300!

We did get the bedrooms up and saw inside the trailer, and we got the main awning open on the living room floor. Thankfully the awning part is immaculate! Thought based on what we got to see that all was OK, just when we got the time to inspect it closely that we realised it was perhaps a little more worn than we were led to believe. But like I said a lot of it is cosmetic and we are sorting that out and to be honest it's been quite satisfying doing it up, just wish we had the missing curtains and linings. On the whole it's a lesson in buying and if I'm ever brave enough to go down the privet route again I shall not repeat!

We have confirmed its age now as a 2000 model.

We've only ever had quick erect trailer tents and have never had an awning lining, could you manage without? The missing curtains probably aren't anything spectacular and it sounds like you could make something to your personal taste, perhaps adding a coordinating lining at a later date!

There are some truly horrible people out there, I hope you get a lot of pleasure out of your unit after dealing with this.

Thank you, I am hoping we may actually be sorted - well fingers crossed anyway!

I did some reading and research on what rights I had as a private buyer. Turns out that although limited I do have some rights with regard to how the item is described in the advert. Luckily the seller made it clear that the curtains and linings were included and are in excellent condition. Therefore we can take him to the Small Claims Court to claim compensation for the replacement of the curtains. I also found out that because he had listed it as a 2003 model and it is actually a 2000 model we were also within our rights to claim a full refund!

So I sent a text to him explaining all of this and telling him I was going to put it in writing and he had seven days to provide the curtains and linings in the condition described, or I would take him to court! I also said how disappointed I was, as with a little bit of communication this could have all been avoided.

So within seconds of sending the text I received a text back, with a picture of part of the receipt and a tracking number. Unfortunately, we have no date visible on the receipt, so can't confirm when it was posted. The tracking status simply says 'accepted'. He has suggested I 'pester' Royal Mail instead! Sadly, I have had to explain that he has to do the pestering as it is a contract between him and Royal Mail, I have also asked for a date, as without it I can't see if the parcel has only just been posted today or if it has been in the system a while and is lost.

So although we have some progress, it's not quite as much as I'd like. Hopefully, he has only just posted the items and they're winging there way to me as I type, otherwise Small Claims Court here I come!

can you see from the receipt the amount he paid, although the curtains weigh nothing, the roof lining including the wardrobe and kitchen bit is rather heavy - well, it definitely felt like that as my arms were killing when fitting it.

Its worth the fight, makes a huge difference, take a look at my gallery pictures, you'll see what I mean

The only thing the picture shows is our postcode, house no. and tracking number, the rest of the details aren't seen.

I have done some digging, Royal Mail have said it was sent with Parcel Force and according to Parcel Force it was last tracked at the sellers home town post office at 13.27 Today!!!

Looks like it has only just been posted. Feeling a little more relieved, now to wait and see what its like when it gets here.
