Following Krazy's Arisaig thread, I thought I'd see if there's any interest in a wee trip to Knoydart ?

For anyone who doesn't know, Knoydart is one of the most remote areas in Britain, only accessible by a 16 mile walk (serious hiking) or by boat. It also boasts the most remote pub in Britain, the Old Forge.

I had a quick walk round the campsite last week.......its basically a field right on the beach, it has a compost toilet and a water supply straight from the hill, no hot water, no showers and a very small outside sink for dish washing.....There's a small building which I believe is a campers kitchen (was being used by a group of kayakers) There's a huge picnic bench right next to a brick bbq / fire area which also has a wooden bench surrounding it.

A fairly regular ferry (smallish boat) runs from Mallaig, 20 return and takes about 30 minutes.

..........for all the campers who have promised themselves a holiday in Arisaig...this could be a great oppertunity to do both as Arisaig is approximately 20 miutes from Mallaig...

Unfortunately its a bit late to organise anything for this year but worth thinking about for next year.

 Thoughts everyone????

Yip! Count myself and 'noname' in! It really is a stunning place to be. We were only there three and a half hours as we booked the 3pm boat back, I do wish it had been longer!! This will be a fantastic meet! I'm sure old faces will join us but it would be great to see some new faces too!

Feel free to add any more information or thoughts Krazy.....probably too early to do much.more.than see what interest there is...I thought May might be a good time, too early and the weather could be fierce, any later and the midgies could be fierce....but with enough notice I can go anytime.

May time would be good for us. Any time as long as there's plenty notice. I thought I would post some of the pics I had taken on last weeks trip to Knoydart.

This one is a view of Knoydart just before we got off the boat. Beautiful isn't it?

This was where we got off the boat.

This snap was taken from the Old Forge

Noname sampled some weed with his lunch!!

This ones for JimCall and Jelboy!!

This poster was displayed at Mallaig harbour

I fell in love with these pretty flowers. I'm not great at identifying flowers but it looks like a yellow iris! I'm sure someone will tell me different.

One more of that wonderful view!

When we settle on a date I'll ask for it off at work....

That's great you are up for the meet Jelboy! I think it would be easiest to work around yourself and Jim's shifts and see what dates we come up with. Do you have your shift pattern as far as May?

Enjoy the Squirrel this weekend Its going to be another scorcher!

 Knoydart

 Knoydart Sea Bridge

If these links have worked I'll be amazed !

Fabulous you're in as well Armchair,( hope you had a good time ) so far we have

Krazy, No name, Jelboy, JimCall, Armchair and thebiz.......shaping up well.

Jim and Jelboy, do we wait till you have shift rotas and work around them, or do we

decide a date and you request it off ? When I eventually get my rota I can swap it

about a bit, so I'm fairly flexible, are you the same Krazy, what about you Armchair ?

Plenty of time to sort a date anyway....

I can check my dates any time. Basically I'm free during school holidays and I also have rather long weekends.

Great to hear your coming along too armchair! I can request which shifts I want to work so as long as I get plenty notice then I'm easy. Noname is off every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The yellow flowers were lovely! Another flower I admired which I didn't get a snap of was white flowers by the side of the road in the Arisaig area. On closer inspection they looked fluffy like how dandelions go once they have gone to seed if that makes sense? Don't have a scooby what they are called. Also noticed them as we were driving through Glencoe so maybe Jim will know what I'm twittering on about!!
