Not everyone had received information, either not delivered or binned along with junk mail. Biggest one I think, GP's were not going to harvest data for the project.
Now they have to do it properly.
Insurance companies in theory could create there own database, using identiable information. It would not take long, all they will need is. Postcode, date of birth and gender. Insurance companies, then could refuse life insurance etc based on potential illness, tests and so on.
Confidentiality cannot be guaranteed, once data is out of GPs hands.. Different organisation s will have access to the data base. They may not be as stringent, more difficult to control. IMO it would be niave to put faith in such a system, until one fully knows, and understand the proper function. Without full proper facts, how can anyone make an fully informed decision, on something as important as this.
