The problem with eating is that in this country at least it is less about feeling hungry and more about the enjoyment of eating. We also normally have fixed meal times...breakfast, lunch, dinner and maybe supper and we eat then, because it is time to eat rather than because we feel hungry. If we don't eat at the right time we are going to feel hungry later.

I keep telling myself that if I am not hungry I am not going to have any lunch or dinner, but then start snacking on packets of crisps and biscuits in the evening.

I looked at the alcohol issue and apparently the alcoholic drink that is the least fattening is Vodka and sugar free coke. It was ok for awhile but very expensive buying a whole bottle plus the coke and boring so I drifted back to the odd bottle of beer or a sherry or port.

However, I am promising myself that once I have emptied the biscuit barrel of it's present contents of dark chocolate digestives (my favourites) I am definitely going to try to give up the carbs

Haven't read everything, but 18 months ago I decided I had to do something about my weight (age 50s).....

Didn't want to do any 'plan' so (as an avid fan of cycling) an exercise bike was bought and I started pedalling whilst just cutting down the quantity of food I ate. I still eat cake.....after all coffee and cake go with cycling! My aim was to lose weight and ride out on the road again.

Fast forward 18 months, hours of hard work I've shed a whopping 6+ stone, achieved riding out again, including the cobbles of France - well a very small sector! It's turned out very expensive with a new wardrobe needed! It hasn't been easy with slow weeks, but the encouragement of one of my boys has been great.

My new challenge is to now keep the weight off.....and maybe manage more cycling in the Alps/Pyrenees on our annual tour jaunt.

You say that you will find portion size a problem. Have you looked at Slimming world. It's a very very good plan, not a diet as such just gets you into good eating habits and you get to at as much food as you want. You can join a group or do it online. Get a magazine and just have a look at it and see what you think. I would say 1 stone weight loss in first month is usually what most of the men in my group lose.

Tomorrow is the moment if truth......My weekly update, I will be happy with 3lbs loss, 4lb would be great though. I reckon I have lost though, although I did succumb to a couple of pints and a couple of glasses of wine with dinner last evening......OK 3 pints and 4 glasses of wine, 😀👍

Thanks, my mate did it and lost 10 stone......YES, 10 stone! He is a different man after many years of coming out with the metabolism/gland problems rubbish. His only problem was one hole is bigger than the other! He has done so well with Slimming World. 👍

Here we go....15st 10lb.....- 6lb. 😀

So that is the holiday hangover gone, that was quite easy and so the next couple of weeks will be relatively easy, after that the hard work starts.

My Friday target is 15st 8lb........Why do I love🍳🥘🍗🍺🍺 And 🍷🍷🍷 soooo much.

Nonetheless a decent start.
