It must be so heartening to the families of the victims that their president has tweeted his condolences.

Now back to the golf

What an awful thing that has happened, heartbreaking.

I just cannot understand why any country makes it totally legal to own a fully automatic weapon capable of causing total carnage in just seconds.........Just plain crazy.

My wife works for an American company. Her colleagues think its crazy we arenít allowed to walk round with a gun just in case we need to shoot someone.

A friend is in Vegas, but was nowhere near the incident,

I think it is about time the Americans gave up their yipee ey ay cowboy image, moved into the modern world and stopped shooting each other. How many incidents like this need to happen before they get the message?

Unfortunately whilst President Fart is sat in the Oval Office you will not see any gun control introduced. It was part of his election promises and one he has stated numerous times since, but then that isn't surprising looking at the NRA support he has, with all their red neck members.

USA, where you can enter a supermarket and buy an automatic rifle but not a child's Kinder Egg!!

its not all bad graham, they banned landrovers too.

as someone who shoots regularly and an armed forces veteran i cannot understand the desire to cause such terrible pain and suffering for no reason. i am astounded at the amount of casualties, even though an automatic weapon was used. there is the old "guns dont kill people" argument, but to be honest it doesnt stand up in america. those of us at the club not only police ourselves but we always keep a wary eye on each other. its not spoken of, we just do it. the checks we have to go through to own weapons are very strict, but for a good reason.

i would hate to live somewhere where you could buy firearms over the counter with little regulation, just because some bloke 200 years ago thought it would be a good idea....

very sad.

I've read this awful news so many times and I just am having problems comprehending this tragedy.

daveyjp - glad your friend is okay. It's always worrying when you know someone in a place where bad things, natural or man-made are happening.

Hi,
I don't think it matters which president is in office.
They all bow down to the NRA.
Obama was no better, they all make the same sympathetic speeches and then hope it all dies down again.
Very tragic a human being feels the need to cause such carnage.
Regards,
Greg

The Us powers that be have for a few years been trying to get legislation passed to ban automatic rifles, an incident such as this is what they have been waiting for to enable such legislation to go through. After serving in the armed forces it was obvious to me that the Los Vegas shooting was set up, multiple guns could heard being fired at the same time,by a lone gun man really. On top of that he was able to carry an arsenal of weapons and thousands of rounds up to his room without causing suspicion, anyone who has been to Vegas will be well aware of all the security cameras that abound,
I am not advocating that automatic or high powered rifles should be in private hands, but its obvious that this incident like a lot of what happens in world today was staged.

You got in before me Greg, name me any other US president that has effectively changed the the gun laws in the US.   NONE.

Love him or hate him, how on earth this has anything to do with Trump is beyond me. Sorry but I think that a ridiculous statement to make in such tragic times for those poor people in LV. However, we will now see his metal, he should bring in legislation to totally ban fully automatic weopens in the US.

We will see.

Sympathy goes to those affected.   Obama tried and tried to toughen/tighten gun laws, outlaw automatics, checks and so on. It was the republicans blocked the vote and couldn't get through.   Trump is pro guns, he won't change, plus gun shares have gone up

Gun law in the US is far to lax, surely they can make some major changes, which would save lives with immediate effect.

Like here in the UK the odd nutter will always do somthing stupid, no matter how tight the gun laws are.

It's all about damage limitation.

The odd nutter in the UK does not have access to guns to go out & shoot folk when he feels like it. If you gave him a gun & ammo he would probably not know how to use it. He might feel better in the afternoon & think it was a bad idea anyway.

The US nutter will already have guns & will have gone to the local gun range to learn how to load them & shoot them so he can go out & carry out a mass shooting as soon as he feels like it.

That's the difference I suppose?

I think gun crime percentage wise in South Africa is a lot higher than the US as I have lost more friends to shootings in SA than anywhere else.
The shooter did not use automatic weapons. Apparently he used some sort of gimmick fitted to the butt which works on the recoil of the weapon and this gimmick keeps pulling the trigger. I cannot remember the name of the gimmick off the top of my head.
Not sure why a poster had to insult the US President as he never caused the shooting. Given the way the press always twist things, I am not surprised that he used Twitter.
