Is there anybody else here who doesn't bother to read some threads because the author has failed to make it clear what the thread is about in the subject field? It seems to be happening with increasing regularity. Being such a busy site, and with (quite literally) hundreds of new messages to read every day, I for one cannot be bothered to click on a thread with titles such as:

How........

Who has been to........

Can anyone tell me.......

simply because there is nothing to indicate in the subject box what the thread is about and so I have no idea whether it will interest me or not.

I know I am not the only member who cannot be bothered to read these threads as they usually end up several pages deep without a reply, or at the very best have one or two replies.

Also makes it very difficult to find a topic in 'search' when you want to look it up at a later date.

Good piont, well put.

I agree. It's particularly annoying in the "Sites" forum because you have to read it to find out what area they're thinking off, only to find they're asking about Outer Mongolia or somewhere else that you've never been to.

It doesn't bother me. You never know whether you are going to read something that you might find interesting, but wouldn't have look at if you knew what the subject was.

As a dial up user also.Is there any chance people could cut down on the number of moving images in posts? The amount of moving avatars not provided by this site in some posts is a bit silly sometimes, and turns viewing threads in a pain.

As well as no subject line some people stray away from it as well and goes completely away from what it started as.

I must admitt I only look at some subjects as i far as I am concerned I can be on the forum all day.    Can't be bothered with that I'm afraid

I couldn't agree more- I use the search" facility a lot-it's a superb way of tracking back to see if there has been a previous Posting to save wasting time asking again- and unless the topic title is specific and gives an idea of what the text is about then the "search" is useless

Hoorah!

There are so many threads on the same topics (tent heaters, sites allowing campfires and ebay tents being particularly plentiful) I had begun to think that I am the only member who uses the search facilities.

Thanks to Ian (Webmaster) for making this a sticky. It won't eradicate the problem completely but, with any luck, it might reduce the number of posts with meaningless titles.

Little tip for dial up users (assuming you're using Internet Exploder)
Click on Tools then Internet Options & then from the Advanced Tab untick Show Pictures and tick Show Image Download Placeholders. Click on OK when done.

The page will then load without loading any pics.
If you want to view any specific piccy on a page Right Click on the Image Placeholder and select Show Picture

having recently gone onto broadband I agree with the dial up issues but don't forget some peeps might be new to the site & not familiar with searching. They might want a current dialogue on an issue & lets face it - most subjects will have been covered before. Sorry this has gone off the subject of unlear titles but personally i like the way threads evolve,
