Callow Top in Ashbourne Derbyshire insist on a minimum of FIVE nights over bank holidays if you wish to have EHU! So who gets 5 nights off every bank holiday then, hands up? We were going to book but when we read that we gave up.

If you have a problem stressing you, sort it. If you can't, there's no point worrying about it coz it won't make a blind bit of difference!!!! Jules

Yes, the best way to put a stop to this is to boycott these sites.

it's tight. I spent hours on the phone looking for a place with less than a 3 night minimum. found one in the end. didn't want to spend the whole weekend out in the mud!

This would be OK if the rate was cheaper the more nights you stay, like some B&bs do, but they charge the same each night.

As said, best to avoid these places as they clearly are more concerned with profits than people.

Well I'm going to put the other point of view.

I can't always predict when I will be able to get time off work, but when I do I would like to go camping for a week with my family. However, so many camps sites are fully booked with long weekend campers (usually tin-top geriartic campers) that it is a struggle to find a site.

In fact, I camped for a week in Suffolk during July and they were taking bookings for 2009 with many pitches already taken. The majority were Friday to Monday caravan bookings. So I'm pleased if camp sites deter the weekend camper during the high season, if only so others can enjoy an annual holiday.

Only trouble is, more and more sites are now doing this and it's becoming harder and harder to avoid them, especially if you have a few favourites that you really like going to.

This is okay for 3 nights min on a bank holiday weekend but more than that is just a rip off - Think now they are getting the market , with more folk camping  and spending more time at sites ,then they are going to maximise on prices and tentage on the sites. Is that a new word - tentage ? I think that sums up how many tents are crammed on. TENTAGE !

Must also mention that the site we stayed at ended up without a water supply for much of the day on Bank Holiday Monday - including toilets, washing up, showers - as the site was fairly remote you can imagine how much this annoyed people - i had to drive into the nearest town to do my morning shift

We camped at Callow Top earlier this year and had to pay for 5 nights without EHU - what a rip off!  It just so happens that hubby is self employed so we did go for the 5 nights but obviously not many people can do this.
