I may be treating myself to a teeny weeny De Waard that I've been drooling over for a while, but am unsure 'when' to buy.
Am hoping some of you Dutch tent experts will have some advice.
I've heard previously that they occasionally have small discounts at certain times in stores, but I can't ask De Waard direct, as they will certainly not admit to any forthcoming sales! I have confirmed the full prices with them and 45 Euros to deliver.
Does anyone have any inside info on discounts, and also with regard to the exchange rate, to wait or not?
Thanks

In June this year they had 20% off their classic tents and 50% off accessories such as luiffels! inner tents etc.

Brand new fully kitted out vergrote zilvermeeuw for £2000.00!!!

That was for their 65th year anniversary though... Probably 5 years till the next biggie!

I was lucky to get my De Waard with a 20% discount on the 2012 prices, during the first week of January this year - can't remember the start date but it completed on the 6th Jan. I had to confirm my order then, but didn't need to make payment until the tent was ready for dispatch (gave some wriggle room on the Euro exchange rate).

From memory the postage was a bit more than you're quoting.

Pé Bouwman in Heerde (De Waaard) provided excellent customer service and the guys on the De Waard Forum were very helpful (in particular Rolph).

I think I spotted the dicount on De Waard's homepage.

Yes, I know, I saw that , which is why I thought perhaps I should wait. I don't need a new tent to use urgently as I have a few...
Perhaps they'll have a New Year sale!
It's a small tent but still a lot of money, so I'll wait if I can get a discount or a better exchang rate, don't suppose that will change enough to make a big difference though.
It will be my first 'new' tent purchase in ten years, all my canvas tents are budget secondhand.

Did you collect your Christmas present BasIchendo?

Thanks DougH, presume the postage quote is less as it's only a small tent.
How did they ask you to make payment?
I will definitely wait a bit then, in case they offer that discount again in the new year.

Bank transfer - I think Paypal was another option, but I recollect they only accepted credit cards in person.

What tent are you looking at? At the moment I'm smitten on the Goudplevier for weekend trips

I was hoping it wouldn't be a bank transfer, as last time I asked my bank about this, they wanted to charge quite a lot for the service... I've never done it so not sure if charges are the norm. PayPal would be ok though.
I would love a Goudplevier, and that was the original size I was looking at, but I just can't afford them...and I have similar size tents .
I have always wanted a Zeester, but just lately had a change of heart...looks beautiful, but not great use of space with that sort of V section at the front, and loads of pegs!
Then I fancied the Burgemeester...and finally it's the Kuifuil as they do it all in dark green...I like green tents! They do a special Jubilee version in blue and beige(mostly blue) which is much cheaper, but it just doesn't do it for me.
Been round the houses haven't I

at splendidisolation, have you looked at www.marktplaats.nl?

Put de waard in the search box, sit back & scroll & drool!!!
You could pop over to holland for a long weekend & pickup one of each of the models you fancy!
They are such good quality and likely to be in excellent condition. Plus most Dutch people speak perfect English so an easy transaction!

I think you could lots of fun de waard shopping!

Hankakampa, yes I've spent many hours on marktplaats . I actually bought my De Waard Visdeif from there, which was a great experience all round. I bought 'blind', and as with all similar purchases, I've been lucky and exactly as described. But I feel my luck will run out, and I can't justify a trip to Holland for the amount I can spend. Yes if buying a larger family tent I'd go.
I can just about afford these smaller ones, and want to buy new for a change, less risk unseen...re condition anyway.
Still an awful lot for such a small tent, but perhaps it will be my last !
The Kuifuil weighs more than I would expect though at 12kg for the tent and 4kg for the poles and more than the weight of a bigger Kemphaan that's temptingly sitting on eBay at the moment.
This is the one I'm looking at
Kuifuil

Ps Hankakampa, you are very bad suggesting I take a trip over and buy one of each I fancy... .

splendidisolation, another option might be the (new in September) Bonte Specht? Similar to the Zeester, comes in two sizes. Think I prefer the Kuifuil myself though.

DougH, I saw a showroom picture I think of that, but I just presumed it was the zeester, it looks identical. Has that replaced the zeester then, or as well as? I says one option is TC but on their price list there's no mention, am finding it difficult to compare prices/ sizes as this does not appear on their tent list on their website.
Think it will be out of my price range though, esp if buying the inner as well.

With regards the Bonte Specht, I like the fact that you have separate area in front, the V section to put boots/cooking stuff etc. Trouble is, it looks as if this is mostly uncovered unless you always have canopy up..I don't understand why the main top sections don't extend right round to the front, like a bell tent. Think the floor space is slightly less than the Kuiguil, but total footprint bigger?
Don't think you can beat the Zeester/ Bonte Specht for looks though. .

Thanks, I had seen that. They don't give enough of a discount for me to buy unseen though. Not paying that for an ex display or one that has what they call 'slight' faults. I know it's an indoor display but still, they're not as new. Would sooner wait for a decent discount on a brand new one.
If I lived next door and could inspect them, then perhaps...

splendidisolation, there was a bit more information (prices, pics etc) on the De Waard forum when the tent was announced - here's the thread...

http://www.dewaardforum.nl/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=12274

...you'll need to put the page through google translate.

Might be woth emailing De Waard to get the full tent specs. I'm sure it won't be long before it's on their website.

Also I think I'm correct in saying, this year De Waard held further promotions in March (Jubilee show) and at Garderen in September, where you could get similar discounts.

Sorry, you can NOT post a reply.
