bought a caravan and looking at the window seals the rubber on the outside is hard and looks like its melted don't know why

yes its degraded and needs changing,unless you do a damp test all round the windows.if no damp leave it.

I haven't got a damp meter to test and I would like to change them but in looking for the rubber seal there are different ones but because they are all the same I e kind of melted how do I know the right one to get to replace them and if it was coursed by damp why would it go so hard and look melted thanks caz

pull off the rubber seal at one end and carefully draw the shape/form of it,when you go on the site you can compare the different shapes.only way to do it.
