Hi

purchased my used Karsten in Janary this year from Karsten themselves. I had never seen one in the flesh so to speak and went entirely on reviews and information gathered on the internet. Cost was 1225 euros including delivery

It was made in 2003, setup consists on 3.0M Pod,Comfort Awning,Extension Awning,Front Wall,Rain Canopy. Mesh door cover and pegged in groundsheet for the awning area.

This will be primarily used by myself early and late season, will use our trailer tent when my partner comes along.

Interestingly the CA and EA are not the same size as the current models. My CA is 70cm and my EA is 150cm wide.

Used it at the end of March for 4 nights and am very happy with the purchase. Few marks on the pod canvas but to be expected with 10yr old tent.

Here are a few pics

Ready to Inflate

So thats my Karsten

Nicely pitched Bob, looks smart!

Does the valve come out and then turn upwards Bob? The valve on mine sticks straight out at a right angle and is much shorter. They must have changed the design, wonder which is the older style? Presume mine? Does anyone have one newer than 2003/4 with the curved valve?

I thought mine was around 2004 as that was the date on the Dutch delivery labels to the UK dealer...but perhaps mine was actually manufactured before yours Bob.

Hanka, on the price list where it states 'link pod adaption' That encompasses the extra door and the canvas cover.

at Jim1977 i paid 1400.00 for my concorde a year ago and tbh i reckon on about a 600 hit approx and its like a new tent!

however its the price to pay to change and if i really want a double pod karsten set up then thats the price for it i guess (-

maddie + splendidisolation - i think its going to be a phone call to karsten in zwaag to find out about the linky piece of material to connect 2 pods together.

i also wonder as a lot of karsten things are made to order, if they are able to make a piece that connects say a 325 or 350 pod to a 300 pod?

only because the whole tent is only going to be 25 or 50 cm wider and so the connecting piece might only be 12.5 or 25cm wider - not a lot and fabric can " give " a bit too and it doesnt i guess need to be super-taught all over.

i might ask! a 325 or 350 living pod connected to my 300 sleeping pod.
this is getting worse. i thought i had reached my tent in the sky! - the sky is getting bigger though!

Hanks - of course they can, its what I have.

Hi

yes splendidisolation the valve comes out and bends upwards according to the paperwork from karsten it is 2003.

would be interesting to know how the design has changed over the years. The size of my awnings are also different to what are available now.

I may get a couple of window foils a I don't have these. I made a note of the sizes just in case those are different 78cm square including the width of the velcro.

Basichendo - I know - I know :) Just had the Harrier up in the garden and it is still a great tent, I just hope it proves to be a sensible buy in the medium term with availability of spares if needed. Gary Cross said they have given no problems pitched all season going up and down every day giving demos. Just nervous having spent so much I guess. Feel sure our next tent will be a Karsten, but will enjoy the Harrier and maybe in 3 years time I'll see how things add up to change. The second hand market here may have grown by then too.

Here is my Karsten 350, 18 years old this year and still going strong! Only a bit faded, and needs some reproofing this year. I bought the tent 2 years ago, I am the third owner.

As you can see there are windows in the extension, I put them there myself, needed a lot of seam sealer, but works fine.

As the picture shows, the extensions for the older tents have different measurements from the newer ones.

For the floor in the extensions I use a cheap tarp, and stuff the mudflaps under it.

A closer look at a DIY-window:

Some more pictures:

...and I remembered the door poles!!!! :

This picture shows the divisions for the "bedrooms":

I need something to step on so I can zip in the curtains...

I love the orange colour, it makes the tent look sunny inside even in bad weather!

I love my Karsten, it really is the ultimate tent for me. And as you can see, you even can zip the front wall to the main pod and use it as a canopy, when you mix up the bags and take the wrong one, leaving the comfort awning at home...

Hi Pingvin, love the front wall being used as a canopy!

Weather was lovely thanks Maddie and he had a great birthday. We were camping in the Cotswolds due to where my son had to be on the Sunday. Our next trip may be to Fforest Fields. However, we are often in Shropshire, as I love camping in Ludlow.

Hanka if you have the weather to need to use the insect screen then you will have remembered your doors poles or you'll have nothing to hang the screen onto!

Well got hubby to phone Karsten...
He asked if we wanted to get another 3m pod what would we need to buy to connect them. Answer would be just the connecting canvas which for 3m to 3m would cost 159 which i think is good value considering other costs for other things.

They are only made to order & can be made for different sized connecting pods.

Omy the cogs are turning now ...may have opened a can of worms !! .

Well achy Fforest Fields will be the 1st place we camp ...when we get our tent.
Never camped in ludlow may have a look see whats available .
We've camped a few times at Lickhill Manor Stourport as its about 40mins drive max & kids have plenty to do if we go into Stourport itself.

Glad to hear that you have a great time.

Maddie.

We ordered a month ago from James and it should arrive the 1st week of June. We asked for the extra zip at the bottom of the front door to keep the creepy crawlies out.

It was quite hard mentally to justify the cost but when compared to the cost of a caravan which will depreciate probably faster then it doesn't seem so bad.

Just got to sell my Norfolk Lake now...
