Hi

Just looking for some recommendations for our next tent. We are a family of 6 (4 months, 2, 5, 10 year old) and we camp in France every summer. We don't need a massive tent as we don't spend a lot of time in it, however it does need to be big enough for 6 of us! We were toying with the idea of getting a 2 man tent for our 2 oldest boys to sleep in and then a smaller tent for the rest of us. Any ideas?

Thanks
Scott

I personally wouldn't be happy putting children in another tent so would opt for a tent big enough for everyone even if it means adults sleeping in the living area of a tent with SIG or ZIG.

What have you camped in previously? how do you transport all your gear? obviously a 4 month old has a load of stuff for days out let alone a week or two away so have you changed vehicle or added a trailer or roof box to your gear?

Not an easy question to answer without lots of details really but I'm more than happy to help you spend your money once we know what you want, need, have space for and can afford

Outwell Montana 6 might be a good option for you.

Hi Tynxuk. To be honest I'm not too keen on the idea of having a smaller tent for the lads either! Previously we have had an Icarus 500 which wasn't too bad, however after it few years it started to leak and ended up with a massive tear in it! We will only be using the tent France and in terms of transporting our gear, we have a roof box. For next summer we will also have a small trailer too.

Thanks
Scott

I will have a look at the Montana 6 too!

The Montana is a lovely living space when up but is quite a big pack size too, if going for that sort of price range and pack size it's worth considering some of the Obelink poly cotton tents as they will be cooler in the sun. We have a Palamos 6 (pyramid tent) which doesn't give as much standing room as a tunnel tent but suits us fine with a tarp at the front.

The prices are a bit off at the moment if you pay via paypal (bank funded not card) as you pay in Euros and the currency conversion is in our favour the nearly 700 tents come in at around 100 less! If paying by card through paypal they (paypal) charge around 4% for a cross border payment.

I personally would not have my 10 year old and 5 year old in a tent by themselves (perhaps our back garden!). However it is your decision.

We have the Montana 6p and have spent nearly 2 weeks in France the last 2 summers with our 3 children (now 3,7 & 9).
We have been to the Vendee and have been so grateful with so much rain in August. Last year was a huge thunder storm when it got too hot with lots of rain that night. Needed the inside space the next day too as was cold and windy & rainy on-and-off.

The 3 man bedrooms would hold 3 children and kit, but may struggle at 4. However i expect the baby will be in with you for a while.
