I wonder if renting a pitch for a static can be interpreted by the law in the same way a tenancy agreement for renting a property is? it would add a lot of protections for the tenant that currently don't exist?

if I was being faced with having to resite my van, I would at least make some enquiries?

I very much doubt it. Back in the 1970s we lived in a Park Home, what was then called a "Mobile Home", and the regulations concerning pitches were the same then as for a static. (They are very different now). The site owner kept putting up the ground rent (pitch fee) so we took him to court, and we were told that rents for land were not covered by the same legislation that covered property. I wold imagine the same applies today. However, I would be delighted to be proved wrong.

I am of the same opinion as you but wouldn't it be great if we're wrong OR that an MP somewhere might take it upon themselves to look at the issue and move 'land rented for residential (inc temporary residential/holiday lets)' into the legislation for renting domestic property, especially as more people seem to be using mobile homes/park homes as their main residential property

ps we also agree that we would never have a static van/mobile home in the UK or anywhere that had an 'age of van clause' that required you to replace your van after a period of time and only through the site !!

Residential sites with proper Park Homes intended for use as permanent homes are now covered by very different legislation to holiday homes, which was not the case when I had mine. They now have much greater security.

Holiday homes, or static caravans as they are usually known, are still subject to the whims of the site owner, who can apparently do what they like, when they like. It would be great if this changed, but I very much doubt if it will. I like static caravans, and have rented them for holidays, but I would never own one for the above reason. Without a site they are worthless, and I have seen some very nice ones sold (unsited) on ebay for less than 200.
