Where do people manage to dredge up these old threads from? I looked at the first messages and thought wow, that's cheap for a family of 4.

As a solo camper I think the maximum I have ever paid was £16 a night but that would have been for a tent, car and two people. It has always bugged me that a solo camper has to pay for two people although some campsites will give a concession if asked.

I have noticed however, that over the last couple of years more campsites are starting to charge per person. That is great for a solo camper but probably works out quite expensive for a family. £16 for me is my absolute maximum at todays rates and I would certainly look for a site of around £10 - £12 inclusive of EHU. There are plenty around and most are nice sites. Obviously a family could expect to pay more than that.

Max I paid was £17/night some 4 years ago and only because I couldn't get a ferry home. What a rip-off! Looking at a site in the English borders for next June - great for the couples, but it's cheaper for me to drive the extra 30 mile return trip and stay with friends than to camp as a singleton! Makes you think!

My feelings are that once you have paid a pitch price for a marked pitch you should be able to put anything you wish on it without having to pay extra providing it is all within the pitch boundary.

The problem arises on campsites without marked pitches whereby it could be construed that a tent plus a kitchen tent is two tents which could take up the space of two pitches.

It must be very difficult for a campsite owner to decide on the best policy when some people turn up with a huge tent, kitchen tent, gazebo, windbreaks, patio tables, chairs, BBQ's and the kitchen sink and commandeer half the field.

Good post Having a van and using a porch awning ...we fit spaces ok[:)Last year Our neighbours had aTT,Sun Porch,Windbreaks, Gazeebo and dog on lead and it was far close to us but.... my you could have fitted 2 fair sized tents in there. I hasten to add no problems with any sort of outfit next to us We do like a little space to sir outside the awning and we could not park our car either side of our van.
