Hi Yvonne,

Great topic for posting .... however just had a peek at Scotts Farm West Wittering and on their site they mention that for the price of 28 per night all tents must be less than 5m sq to include guy ropes!

This is frankly laughable, if they think that you are in line for charges over and above 28 for using a Montana 6 they are daft. In fact reading their policy they suggest that an awning is another 3 .  So my Montana6 and M6 Awning would cost 31 plus an over size charge to be decided by them on a per tent basis.... could be + 50%.

I recently returned from Tregarton Park in Cornwall and used this tent and awning the week after school hols ended and was paying 9 per night for a very well appointed , clean site.

I'm happy for you to add our name to the list but we must be aware of the size of the tent before you arrive as our electric pitches are pre-allocated. I think more and more tents will be accepting the larger tents now - it just takes a bit of time for us to adjust to this rapidly changing market

Thanks Yvonne for this great thread. Just what we needed having invested in a Vango Tigris 800 just today - our first tent!

We're hoping to have our first weekend away with our kids over the weekend of my birthday in the middle of June, thankfully not the Jubilee one.

Beki - we're in Yorkshire and want to stay local so will check out your site. Thanks for being so proactive and posting, what great customer service.

Louise

Wow, so many posts on this topic.

We've just got our first tent (Outwell Vermont XLP, 4.8 x 7.7 mtrs plus ropes), and want to take it to either New Forest or Dorset coast.

Our boys are 2, 4 and 7, so we'd love plenty of family friendly activities.

We had thought about Lytton Lawn, but they don't go above 7 mtrs :(

And Scott's Farm was mentioned earlier in the thread and didn't seem to be feasible either...

Can anybody recommend a fantastic site?

(I looked at the various sites on teh campsite search but their website links are not really conclusive when it comes to pitch sizes).

I know this is an old post but does anyone have any recommendations for Devon/Dorset/Norfolk for sites that will take the Outwell Vermont XLP with side extension. Overall it makes the size of the tent approx 8 x 7 meters :( great for comfort as there is only the two of us but not so great for getting pitches to accommodate. Having to pay for 2 pitches per night this year made for very expensive camping! Could have gone abroad cheaper !!!!

If you don't need ehu there's this one in Norfolk -

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=9774

The camping field is quite large and without ehu you can pitch where you like so there's no problem if you have a large tent.

Middlewood Farm robins hood bay
just checked there website and they have a surcharge for larger tents 50% of pitch fee,
a nasty trend that a lot of sites are doing as tents get bigger camping is no longer a cheaper way of having a family holiday

are there any sites near to scarborough that do take larger tents without the extra charge???

Blackbull Caravan Park, Pickering, North Yorkshire - we have just returned from our first camp of the year with our new Vango Tigris 800 XL (3.1m x 7.4m) and there was still plenty of pitch space left. Some other campers on site had big Outwell tents and a bigger Vango tent than ours. Great campsite by the way...
