we're going to Corfe Castle CCC site next week, does anyone have any info about a footpath between the site and the village. I know its not far, but the road looks decidedly unfriendly for walkers and we have 2 young children & the dog. Its seems a shame to have to take the car such a short distance.

Depends on which part of the village. There is one path that runs along the bottom of the ridge and via the castle into the village and another that cuts across towards the car park on the south side of the village.

This reply may be a bit late for you...sorry, only just seen your post. We stayed at this site this year and the footpath goes over the hill behind the campsite. It was a 15 minute walk. Just ask in reception at the campsite and they'll give you directions to the start of the path. It's well used and you get a lovely view of the castle as you approach it.

Could you tell me what you thought of the Corfe Castle site please? We are collecting our first ever caravan next week and want to go somewhere local (we are near Bournemouth) just to try it out.

We thought this site looks ideal as it has the facilities we want (serviced pitches and showers etc) and has nice walks and scenery and 2 pubs within walking distance (must have these!)

However, upon reading a few negative reviews about the site, mainly regarding poor access and unlevel pitches I am wondering of maybe we should go elsewhere as a pair of novices! Any help would be gratefully received or if you know anywhere better please let me know. Many thanks.

Have you looked at nearby Norden Farm?

I am with Bob. Norden farm is our favourite site even closer to Corfe with excellent access and paths.

There are two footpaths from the site to Corfe.

One to the north of the site only involves crossing the road. It is uphill until you get to the path under the ridge and then down hill to Corfe.

The second involves about 100m of the road, which doesn't have much traffic and is all downhill to Corfe.

You can see the paths on this OS map.

Awesome recommendations thank you all. Will add Norden Farm and Haycroft to a short list of sites to be visited asap. A bit sad we are getting our first van so near to Autumn and wondering how late into the year we can stretch out the weekends away :)

Maysie - we live near you and there are some lovely local sites. We have also done Wood Farm at Charmouth - easy access and plan to do Longleat at Oct. Several friends like Wilksworth Farm at Wimborne and Ulwell Cottage at Swanage. Also other friends have recommended Wareham Forest Tourist park. Good luck.

Thanks Frannyvan, suggestions greatly appreciated :) Wood Farm was one we thought looked good online but I hadn't come across the others.

We would like to go a little further than Wimborne (we are in Ringwood) and are thinking of 3/4 hour to an hour's drive the first time, just to try her out, so Swanage/Charmouth etc would be great. I looked at Golden Cap (we tented there once years ago) and Corfe Castle and then read horror stories about the access roads in...

We want a pub within a short walk too, this is a must ;) Really can't wait to pick her up and try her out,we are so excited and our sons (age 20 and 25) have been teasing us mercilessly about it as they find it very amusing. We said we might go to Croyde in October (my favourite place in the country) as we have had many surfing hols with the boys in the past. We said they could sleep in the awning. The eldest said, 'No, we will sleep in my tent because we are young!' Well we don't care, we can't wait!

We are in Verwood, so just down the road. Friends of ours like the Wimborne one, so they can pop home and feed the cat, plus got an outside pool, so their kids are happy. Personally I like to go a bit further too. We joined the CC and the handbook is really useful. There are lots of sites Bridport way, but we just stuck with the CC Club sites to start with, so we knew they would be of a very good standard. Report back if you find some hidden gems!
If I can tow a caravan around Morrisons car park at Bridport, then I'm sure you'll be able to tow almost anywhere.

Haha! am going to tell hubby to steer well clear of Morrisons at Bridport then!

Have been mulling over which to join; CC or C&CC and am very interested in your reasons for joining the CC and the fact that you get a handbook which you find useful. I also thought I would go with their insurance as that looks good and a friend who has a van recommended it.

Might have to join now, in readiness for getting the van next weekend. Really can't wait! Will let you know if I find any good ones but am sure you will have tried them out :)

we bought our insurance through them and friends recommended joining for the sites and also to get discounts on ferries etc. They go to France in the Summer holidays and save a fortune on the Dunkirk ferry.
You know what you are getting with a CC Club site and friends use a lot of their CL sites as they have a lovely bathroom in their newish van, so only need EHU and water.
