Still can't decide.

Apparently Invercaimbe can only take 3-man tents or smaller so that's out

So now can't decide between Portnadoran or Silversands.

Any experiences of either?

Why is choosing a campsite so hard?!

We have stayed at sunnyside croft, lovely facilities, but if we were to go back we think we would stay at Camusdarach - more our kind of site with 3 beaches within a few minutes walk.

I wonder if things have changed a bit since I was at Invercaimbe last year - admittedly I didn't see any large tents but mine's a 4-berth and there was no objection to it then.

I've no experience of Portnadoran but if it's any help location-wise it shares the same beach as Invercaimbe - my blog post of Thursday June 6th last year will give you an idea. The first photo is taken from just past the end of Invercaimbe looking towards Portnadoran, the third and fourth with the dinghy are from the beach at Portnadoran looking back to Invercaimbe.

Thanks Tigermouse, I've enjoyed looking at your blog. I was very disappointed really as when looking at photo's of Invercaimbe on their Facebook page, there was one with a huge tunnel tent and loads of enormous trailer tents! I told DH we should have bought a camper van!

Well if Joyce is limiting the size of tents I can understand why - although the caravan and motorhome pitches are level the ground left for tents is sloping in places and uneven with very few completely level parts, so pitching a large tent would be difficult. I think I must have been lucky when I went last year as there was no-one pitched in the area Joyce took me to so I was able to pitch on the flattest bit at the top of the slope.

I'm guessing from the close proximity of all the campsites in that area that they're all pretty much of a muchness? Ideally I'd like to be able to fall out of the tent onto the beach but then may regret that if the weather doesn't improve!

I've just been looking at the reviews of other sites in the area and personally if I didn't go to Invercaimbe then I would choose Sunnyside Croft. Okay, you can't roll out of the tent onto the beach like you can at Invercaimbe but it's still very close, and looking at the pic at the top of the main page of their website it looks like a really nice site. Also it seems to have good reviews and several people on here have recommended it in the past.

I hope you manage to sort something out, if the weather's good you certainly won't regret going to that area, it really is beautiful.

Stayed at Sunnyside Croft last year. We visited all the sites in Arisaig last summer. In my opinion this was the nicest site. Right on the beach with clean and modern facilities. Owners were the friendliest folks too which was the icing on the cake

Sunnyside, sunnyside, sunnyside!!

We had a great time there, facilities were superb to say the least.

We should have done a return trip there last summer, but my health meant we had to postpone as i ended up in hospital. We are, however, going there this year instead.

Hmm, still haven't decided. I like the look of sunnyside but it doesn't look like you can pitch facing the beach? From their website, it looks like the tent pitches are in the middle of a circular row of hard standing pitches? And I hate the feeling of camping in a goldfish bowl!

Just as a point of interest can someone check the Invercaimbe website for me please? I've tried accessing it several times, using both Chrome and IE but keep getting a '403 forbidden' message, even if I try it through the camp site search on here. I've Googled it and can only find a Facebook page - and I don't do Fb - so I'm wondering if the actual website no longer exists. What does anyone else get?

On their Facebook page it says there's a new website coming soon, but it's been down for quite a long time now.

Thanks, it mustn't be in operation then. I did wonder if it was my pc as Chrome screwed up quite a few things and I can't always access sites I want to look at, but obviously this time it's them and not me!

I have finally made a decision! Given that lots of people recommended sunnyside croft, way too may to safely ignore I have booked there. The ability to book online was also particularly nice.

Looking forward to it now. Roll on summer. Too long to wait!

Great stuff, glad you finally made a decision - I hope you have a great time. While you're there, just out of interest you could always wander along the beach and take a look at Invercaimbe
