I would like to visit the Royal Hospital in Chelsea London SW3 4SR in early June this year and am looking for a site which takes motor caravans but I need some help with a route. Living in South Oxfordshire I hear all sorts of nasty things about motor caravans being banned from London because of polution. I know that there is a site at Crystal Palace and wonder if there is a route from Abingdon to Crystal Palace that avoids such problems? I also wonder if there are any other Caravan Sites in London that would meet my needs.

I think you will find that the Crystal Palace site is bang in the middle of the LEZ area!!! If you look at the LEZ website I think you can check your registration number to see if it applies to you.

Not having had to travel to London for some years I knew nothing of this LEZ so I looked up their Web Page and keyed my Registration in and the following came up.
The vehicle meets the required Low Emission Zone standards at this time.
So thank you very much David.

Having said that I know that there is a site at Crystal Palace can anyone recommend a rout from Abingdon to Crystal Palace? I also wonder if there are any other Caravan Sites in London that would meet my needs.

Sites actually in London are pretty rare. The Caravan Club run two sites, Crystal Palace and Abbey Wood. As far as directions I would use the ones published by the Club on their website. The alternative is to use a site further of which there is more choice, and use public transport to get into Central London. Although as you live near Abingdon I assume you could as easily do that from there?

Abbey wood is in the lez.

When I went there it was just before the restrictions. I had an old vw camper van which on the v5 stated panel van. The lez said I was banned from the area after the restrictions started unless I was a motorhome. I got the use category changed on the v5 by the dvla. I never went back to abbey wood but believe I'd have been ok if I did.

The CC&C have two sites with good transport links to London; Chertsey and Walton on Thames. Details of both sites can be found on the CC&C website.
