I am trying to contact a caravan site on the far (western) end of the Ardnamurchan peninsular in Scotland.
The site is shown on the OS 1:25000 series, and is plainly visible on the satellite view also, but I can find no reference to it on the internet.
It is at NGR NM 42560 67427 and is about 1km due East of the lighthouse on Ardnamurchan Point.

Does anybody know about this site? Has it closed recently?
Any information gratefully received.

I can see what you mean on google satelite view.
On streetview there's a sign on a gate saying Carraig caravan site, but that image is from 2011.

So that's why you are called "Lightening"!

It's "Lightning" - no "e"   However... I did a 'Google' on Carraig site and only found one brief reference to it. (NB. There is another site of the same name)

It seems that Carraig is a long deserted village.

If you'd like to donate 18.10 for my return ferry fare, I'll nip over the water and check it out for you on early next week!!

I've not been out to the Lighthouse for about four years but as I remember it and I may well be wrong, the site was a series of statics with families living full time in them. I also can't find any info on it through various local sources.

I drove past this site a few weeks ago, the entrance had a large closed metal gate and a sign saying statics only. A shame as it's in a gorgeous location.

PS ficklejade are you out on the targa next week?!

Oh, Speaker12, you did me out of a trip over the water!! Not that the early part of next week is looking wonderful weather-wise!!!

Sorry, Chocolate teapot, firstly for not welcoming you to the forum and secondly, for wandering off thread briefly; as you become better acquainted with this site, you'll find that happens quite often.

I'm glad Speaker12 was able to give up to date info. Have a look at the Kilchoan site - that is also in a glorious location. You'll find loads of info on Ardnamurchan website but also google Kilchoan Diary.

PS to Speaker12 - will post message to you under Chat section.

OP joined UKCS to ask us a question about that site....
If they ever come back to look at the answers (or to thank folk folk for taking time to help?) there are several sites in Ardnamurchan such as Resipole (scores 9/10); there are others but that's the one I know. It's a beautiful area and there are threads about exploring it that may help you plan your visit.

I doubt that Teapot is coming back, but I found a Facebook photo with a detailed description of the local beaches at Carraig. The site was described as Private, with a locked gate.

Good research, Fiona W. I'm not great on using FB and didn't think of looking there! I also doubt the Teapot will come back - perhaps I put them off by my jokey suggestion!

I'm not on FB, Ficklejade. (Had issues with identity theft, so I'm super wary with security.) The entry came up on a Google search.

We stayed at resipole when we toured ardnamurchan it was a nice site with lively views over the water. Every tea time we watched a group of porpoises swim past us!

Sorry to hear that Fiona - friends had similar problem earlier this year but that was Internet banking!

I think Resipole is in a beautiful location but, apart from its proximity to me, it's not the site for me, but that's just my preference. You should have been in Tobermory a couple of weeks back when a pod of bottle-nose dolphins, including a young one followed a creel boat in and then gave us 45 minutes of "play time". I kept dodging out of the RNLI volunteer shop to watch, but the shop made a lot of money that morning so all to the good.
