Whilst I was on the walk .

I came upon a lot of churchs and chapels . It was nice to pause and reflect ,and think about life In general . Especially when I went Inside the chapel on Church Island  at Menai . I stayed there for sometime In the peace and quite and realised how lucky I was to see all the hidden places like this . And very fortunate to be healthy and fit to be able to do the Coastal path walk .

Tbh I'm not really religious but I do like to spend a few minutes in a chapel if I find one when I'm on my travels. Unfortunately the one on church island was closed when I went there.

Have you ever seen the one on the promenade at Rhos-on-Sea? It's the sweetest little chapel I've ever seen, it's built on the site of an old well - in fact the well is still there, underneath the altar - and is only big enough for six people. Services are still held there regularly too.

Yes Tigermouse I have seen It and been In It .

You hardly know Its there.......... Just below the promenade

It Is beautiful . As Rhos-On-Sea .

It Is one of my favourite places to stop when we are going to North Wales . On trips out or Holidays .

Have you ever seen the Spanish Shrine near the derelict ruin's of Errwood Hall In the Goyt Valley . Its only tiny . And has a presence about It .

No, I've never been there.

I went in a chapel down in Suffolk last year, and old church built in the ruins of an even older church. It was lovely inside and really peaceful, no-one else around so I stayed for a while and was impressed enough to sign the guest book on my way out.

Beautiful photos and most of them very familiar. My daughter lives at Menai so we are there very often. Did you have a meal at The Ship at Red Wharf Bay?

Hello pippa 10.

Reference to photo's .Glad you liked them ,and they were familiar to you .  I picture all the places I went on the walk . And picture myself there again .It makes me so happy

What a trip , the weather certainly made It . It was the last week In May . Which was our summer . My Nephew came today to pick up all the maps and gen on where to stay . all the Campsites I recommend . I gave him all the Information . He Is chomping at the bit to get started .

As for Menai , A lovely place I got to know It well on my travels , its amazing what you see when you are walking : As opposed to driving around . Your daughter Is very lucky to live on the Beautiful  Island of Anglesey .

No I did not have a meal there . I stopped at one of the picnic bench's and had a couple of chew bars and a hydration drink . Which was part of my starvation diet of " Pasta & Rice ". As I'm on a pension budget I tried to save as much as I could . But It certainly made me lose weight . As It was hard exercise every day . " But It was well worth It " .

Cheers

Nice pics Tony.

I hope to do a bit of the path around the eastern side when taking my Caravan to Moelfre in a few weeks.

The small cromlechs in your picture of Menai bridge, are modern (20th Century), and part of the Eisteddfod gorsedd tradition.   http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/667623  Though to be thoroughly pedantic they look too small for the national eisteddfod IMHO, and might have been built by the Anglesey Eisteddfod?

Anyway, you see them all over Wales, but 21st century sensibilities means the Eisteddfod now uses Fibreglass stonealike circles, and takes them with it wherever it goes.

It was very Interesting about the Cromlechs .

Hope you have a lovely time and nice walks along the Coastal path . Moelfre Benllech ,Lligwy bay, Red wharf , these are all nice but the walk around Dulas estuary Is very scenic .

"Now look what you have done ".

I'm walking all of the path again In my minds eye

My Nephew went back recently  to walk more of the Coastal path . And decided to walk Around Newborough Forest to Llandwyn Island again .

He liked It that much . I gave him all my recommendations for campsites to stay at .So he camped at various site's  each night along the coast .  He then continued on down the Coastal path Along the Menai Straits . To the Brittania and Menai bridge's .

He thought the Scenery was fantastic towards Snowdonia , Caernarfon  And came across all the unusual hidden ones like the pilot boat house ,Nelson on a column along the shoreline , the Cromlechs :

Then passed the lovely Beaumaris and onto Penmon Around past Llanddona wide beach and onto Red Wharf Bay . He said the Dulas Estuary And Lligwy bay was beautiful . He ended up at Amlwch  Where he struggled to get on a campsite. He Is going back shortly to finish off the walk .

Hi ZIGAG

What a wonderful adventure you have had. I grew up holidaying in Treardurr Bay and know most of the villages you talk about but not the sights. Just shows you there is always something new to see.

We have just spent the week there and have been looking at walking the coast.

I wonder if it would be possible for you to let me know which campsites you used and if you would camp or BB it another time.

Thanks for the photos, the first one is the exact part of the beach my extended family always used. It brings back memories of salmon spread sandwiches crisps and pop.

Hello Susan .

I still think of the Adventures of the Hike /Walk. Anglesey Is a beautiful Island :

It was a trip of a lifetime . Here Is the Campsite List .   I stayed at .

Blackthorn Farm Trearddur Bay. Pen -Y-Bont  Four mile bridge. Bodafon ,Rhosneigr.

Pen-y-bont Maltraeth.   Awelfryn Newborough. Fron CC at Brynsiencyn. Kingsbridge Beaumaris.  Golden Sunset Benllech.  Llanfair Bach Penrhos Nr Holyhead .

Re: To Camping and or B&B  . Well I love camping And the first week with my Nephew for company was great .The other week I was on my own . The solitude was nice . And certainly found out how testing and trying some days ,walking the path . especially with a full Rucksack with all my camping gear .................

It would be a nice and easy staying In a B&B   .Just carrying a day bag each day . And having all the facilities at the end of the day . Think of the cost . £35/40 ppn Ouch .  Luxuary to me . Yes If I could afford It . As i'm retired I did It on a budget . And enjoyed saving myself a lot of dosh . And I lost weight and got very fit .

If you need any more Information on the Walk . I will gladly help .

I used the following sites on my walk:

Bagnol Caravan Park, Trearddur Bay - Good facilities but somewhat indifferent staff

Bodfan Farm, Rhosneigr - Helpful staff, nice facilities, close to town.

White Lodge Caravan Park, Newborough - Very helpful staff, basic facilities, close to the shops and forest, great views

Tyddan Isaaf, Dulas - Fantastic facilities, really close to the coast, very friendly owner, very secure site

Some site in Church Bay - Not sure of the name but basically it hadn't really opened yet and was just a field with a tap in the corner. It was cheap, available and I was exhausted, so took it!

I also stayed one night in the Liverpool Arms Hotel in Beaumauris, which I can reccomend heartily.

As for the pros and cons of camping as opposed to B&Bs I would say that both have their advantages as Zigzag said.

Most of the sites I stayed at cost me no more than £6-10 a night, whereas a B&B would usually set you back £30 at least. Carrying all the weight of camping gear is a chore sometimes though. You can alleviate this somewhat though, for example there is no need to carry lots of food if you plan ahead. Most nights you'll be somewhere with a village shop or similar, so you can buy food as you go along rather than carrying it all at the start.

B&Bs are usually more comfortable, but you can also be a little more limited with them. For example most of them aren't going to start serving breakfast until say 8am, which generally means you won't get started until 9am, which restricts walking time. When camping I'm generally up and on the path by around 8am at the latest and that includes the best part of an hour spent packing up.

I will also gladly offer any advice or help to as I did the path in May 2010 and had a great time. I hope to return next year or the year after to have another go, that's how much I liked it.

My Nephew went back to Amlwch to finish off the Coastal path walk . He enjoyed the rugged coastline and stopped at the only campsite near Cemaes Bay . Called Llanbadrig Vineyard . Apparently its a bit run down , and found the water unfit to drink . The lovely scenery made up for It . He walked/ hiked further along to Church Bay . And stopped at a nice campsite called Ty-Newydd . Then next day set off on down the coast to Penryn bay then there is a part where you have to come Inland to Llanfachraeth village . Where the path finish's and you have to walk on the very busy A5025 for about a mile ,then turn off down a designated cycle lane and back onto the coastal path to the beach and upto bridge  called the Cob  . Then through the lovely Penhros coastal park . He stayed his last night at the lovely friendly campsite . At Penrhos called Llanfair Bach . So he had a great time ,doing the walk .

And he wants to go back next year and walk the clockwise route .
