My son and I spent an amazing 8 days last week in the outer Hebrides. We camped our way down from Lewis to Barra, before returning home on a fab ferry crossing to Oban (accompanied by dolphins, two sea eages and a basking shark!).
We were very lucky with the weather. Stayed at some superb sites with amazing views. This is a fantastic part of the UK (for the moment ;-)).

Hope the pics work.

Absolutely stunning!!!! How was your journey? Have thought about going but wary of ferry and drive? Never done anything like that before but would love to especially as your photos are so beautiful.

It was great. We travelled to Skye initially, camped for one night, then ferry from Uig to Tarbert the next day. This was cheaper and a shorter drive than Ullapool to Stornaway.
No problem with ferries. All ran to time. Yes, you pay ferry fares, but the sites are so much less expensive that mainland UK (Cornwall, Devon etc), the holiday worked out cheaper. The first site on Isle of Lewis was 2ppp and Barra 5 for both of us. The most we paid for one night was 11, but that included hook up and Wi-Fi.
Coming home, we travelled from Barra to home (Newcastle) in one day.

Outstanding photographs, what a view from the pitch. The last one looks like a beach on Los Roques we visited, mind you it didn't have the hills in the distance.

Absolutely beautiful photographs. Thank you so much for posting them. Not sure i could deal with the rush for the sun loungers on those beaches though

Wonderful pics and what an area. My daughter told us just how beautiful it is up there after her holiday there. Now I see what she means.

Those really are lovely photos. You were very lucky weather wise going by the blue sky in all your snaps. We are hoping to do a similar tour next summer.

We did a similar trip a few weeks ago but we ran out of time and missed out large chunks of Lewis, in particular the Uig area. It looks smashing, glad you got the weather too!

Wonderful! Wonderful! I've camped over there a few times myself and it's just unbeatable. Your photos make me want to go back now.

We were at the Uig site in 2011. Is it true that there are now showers? It was just toilets, cold water and no lighting when we were there but I loved the remoteness from 'civilisation'.

We intended to get down to Barra last summer but went from Berneray to Horgabost in the end. It's fine not having to book as you have the freedom to pitch up wherever you fancy going on the day.

Yes. Superb block at Uig with showers and a kitchen! Fresh flowers and cleaner was there too one day. Spotless.

Some superb sites, but Horgabost takes some beating for that view!
