Please does anyone know of a map website which layers camp sites on top of the National Cycle Network map: http://www.opencyclemap.org/ Ideally better still with also hostels/bunkhouses/accommodation but I know ukcampsite speciality is camp sites.
I have equipped a bike with front rack and rear rack with panniers. This when loaded heavy-weight cumbersome mobile structure relies on finding some where safe to camp for the night especially if something goes wrong. On an experimental first time ride on day 2 it was raining as I rode on next to gutter cycle lanes through a large town with some of fast moving traffic passing too close to me. In circumstance such as this I would at times want to quickly change route/destination. ukcampsites map is brilliant but I found using the National Cycle Map and ukcampsites separately very slow especially when out on the road. Ideally I am looking for a fast acting blend of campsites and cycle routes on the same webpage. Sustrans have made an extremely limited contribution to linking cycling with camping: https://www.sustrans.org.uk/ncn/map/walking-and-cycling-inspiration/routes-families/camp-and-cycle-adventures
As you know Ordnance Survey have campsites symbols on their 1/50 and 1/25 scale maps which is good for localised cycling but this does not have the radius search as on ukcampsite.co.uk which is so good for long distance travel. I used the website http://findabunkhouse.com/national-trails/4531499370 to walk along Hadrianís Wall from Newcastle to Carlisle. This is an example of a long footpath linked to accommodation and very good it was. But the cycle network does not seem to have accommodation linked to it in the same way as roads are linked to sites as on ukcampsite.co.uk Travelling by car or even on foot versus being with a laden bike are as you can imagine a world apart so to fulfil a dream of easy bike-and-camp travel nationwide can anyone help. Thanks.
