Can anyone recommend any quiet sites in the Vendee / Loire Atlantique region. We are a couple in our 40's and do not want an all singing all dancing site. All the web sites I go on seem to have only sites which provide non stop entertainment, social events and sports These sites look great for families but we would prefer a site with no organised entertainment and activities although we would like a pool. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Sounds like you need one of the 'Municipal' sites found in most French Towns and villages?

Try looking in the Alan Rogers Guide to France. The reviews there are honest, and unbiased. If it's quiet, it'll tell you it's quiet!

We're off in 10 days time, so if we come across any, we'll make notes (usually do when away anyway!), and let you know when we get back!

Good luck....half the fun's in finding a great site!

Thanks for the advice stu. I have just taken a look at the Alan Rogers web site and I can check out the entire directory on line so that will keep me quiet for a couple of hours.

Enjoy France.

three years ago we stayed at Le Pin Parasol,  this was a lovely site we booked this with the c&cc carefree if you contact them through their webb site or by phone they will send you a brochure. there is a small bar but no entertainment. a swimming pool, from some of the large pitches there are views across the lac du jaunay. it is a few miles out side st gilles, six miles to the nearest beaches.

the only problem with the site is there is little or no shade ,this can be uncomfortable in august when it can be very hot and in a caravan.

We've been to Les Prairies du Lac twice - it's in Alan Rogers and is a well kept smallish site. It's well away from the busy coast (40 mins) to be quiet but close enough if you want to go there - we enjoyed it.

The site we've just come back from - La Prairie in St Hilaire is basically very quiet, there is a disco, but it's always finished by 11pm. Genereally the only sound to be heared is the clonk of Petanque balls !

Hi

We stayed at Mouettes Cendree, Jard sur Mere (http://www.les-campings.com/mouettecendree/index.html) this summer.  This wasn't the noisiest site in the world having around 100 pitches and a some statics.  There isn't a club house on site or shop for that matter, but there is a pool.  You can order bread etc from the site office and the Super-U is only just down the road.  It has just changed hands (apparently for the 3rd time  in five years),  but we met people that returned there year after year.  Indeed the new owners seem very keen indeed and organised little receptions and barbecues  etc to try and encourage a cordial atmosphere.

Why wouldn't I stay there again?  I can't really think of a reason why I wouldn't and indeed I probably would go there again if I was to return to that part of the Vendee.  The toilet block was clean if a little dated (maybe the new owners will  update them).  The new arrivals area is a little dodgey if you arrive like we did mob handed (there were two caravans).  There is only room for one van at a time!  Apart from the slightly tired feel of the pitch which is not unusual  for France the site was very good.

Hope this is of use

Tim

Les Ecquerils ( The Squirrels) in Jard Sur Mer(look in Alan Rogers) is a lovely site, near the beach and the town

le garangeoire is not a quiet site, i found it very well kept but quite large lots of youngsters and a little like a small town in peak season very busy around pool and bar and reception area .
