Just looking at prices for a crossing in June this year for a car and 2 people (no trailer etc) and P&O is £70 return.  (DFDS is slightly cheaper but not nearly as many crossings each day).

I think this price is resonable; would I be best to book it now as I'm presuming that prices will rise rather than come down?

Never booked a ferry before so I'm clueless!

Gallery Images:   3 		That's not bad - but next year keep a look out around the times of the Caravan Shows at the NEC and Excel.  Those of us who hunt out bargains try to book then.  The Caravan shows are October at the NEC and February at Excel. DFDS issue a special 'show discount'.  You could have booked a DFDS ferry for £19.00 each way (car or motorhome) or £29.00 for car and caravan each way - low season.  High season was £29.00 each way, car, and £39.00 each way, car and caravan.  No restrictions on which sailings, or which dates (in the appropriate season), and free amendments up until the 30th June.

Gallery Images:   3 		If you want to go at peak time, ie weekend daytime, July/Aug or any bank hol week, I would book it now as prices rise as ferries fill up. If you are travelling midweek off peak times then its not so essential.

Gallery Images:   0 		If you are happy to hold fire for a couple of weeks, then you may get a better deal. National Ferry fortnight has been brought forward this year to March 17th - March 31st, usually some decent promotions on offer.

Hopefully we'll love our first camping trip abroad and we can book earlier next time using the show offers.

Of all the people I know, who have started camping/caravanning in France, not one has gone just once and never gone back.  Most of them are like us, and go back year after year!

Enjoy your trip Roobie - and I hope you do manage to source a cheap ferry crossing.

I agree - but wasn't there that guy who was disappointed that the Loire Valley wasn't in a valley? I think he only went once.
