I am looking to book our 2014 holiday. I usually book through C&C but I thinking of going it alone. We've spent the last couple of summers at Bel in La Tranche sur Mer, which is in many ways a great site. It is the right size less than 200 pitches, has a pool and is close to both the beach and supermarket. We've decided it's time for a change, Bel seems to have mostly very young children, we are travelling as a family of four, me, my husband and two teenage sons. We like quieter sites, but close to a beach. We will cross Plymouth to Roscoff and looking for ideas for sites in southern Brittany, Vendee, Atlantic Coast. We like to swim, and cycle. So if you have any ideas of good sites I'd be really grateful.

The area around Carnac/La Trinite Sur Mer is well worth a look as a change from the Vendee. There are several sites reviewed in the camp site search section above. La Plage and La Baie are both on the beach at La Trinite but aren't huge and also Les Druids at Carnac is another which isn't mad busy. There are cycle lanes between the two towns along the coast road.

We're hopefully heading back this way next summer.

Camping Penboch near Vannes in Sth Brittany might be worth a look. It is a small site and has a lot of teenagers, compared to Bel, but is not noisy. We have "migrated" from Bel to it.
Only downside the beach is small and not as good in comparison to what you have been used to. Having said that the pool complex is much better and we found our feenager did not miss the beach. There is a large SuperU within 5mins drive, not really walkable, but there is no problem parking.
There are a lot of nice towns within a very easy drive from Penboch especially Auray and Vannes is a lovely city, with a great market.

Cornwall calling Dartmoor !Hi.

Is it too far for you to get down beyond La Rochelle? Our favourite stretch of coast is the Cote Sauvage near La Palmyre - big surfing beaches and miles of off road cycling on good tracks through the pine forest. There are several good campsites around the village of Les Mathes, a little way inland on the edge of the forest. One that we like is La Palombiere - http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=12293 A big, open, spacious site, and has a pool, but a traditional one without water slides and screaming kids, and a plus point for your teenage boys is an adventure park close by with rope walks and climbing up into the trees. Our boys loved the area when they were teenagers.

i agree with Berriow, but avoid La Palmyre itself if you want to avoid a holiday resort. It's like Blackpool with sun. Stay north of Palmyre on the Cote sauvage and you're fine.

Or for something different, you coul look at Oleron, great for cycling, Le Suroit is on the beach, but only a smallish pool.

La Rochelle/Ile de Re is a great area ..
You might look at a largely ignored area: The Venise Verte or Marais Poitevin an area of multiple lacework of canals vast cycle network and great boating West of Niort sea is not far a teaste of :
It's a beautiful part of France and not really discovered

We stayed at camping atlantique at Fouesnant, great for teenagers. Also second the votes for carnac. Alternatively head further south to Loree Du BOis great place.

Ile de Re is lovely, a UNESCO site, but gets very busy in season. Pornic is a good spot too -fabulous beaches & a really pretty town with loads of campsites nearby.
