Hi,
I am looking for a family caravan park in Northern France either Pas-De-Calais (preferably Dunkirk) or Normandy which will be open over New Year 29th Dec to 3/4 Jan.

Tall ask I know to make it even harder, want one that is walking distance to the seafront as we don't drive around once we get somewhere.

Any suggestions gratefully received, I have looked on here and googled but no substitute for asking in case someone knows of somewhere (none on ukcampsite that I could see)

Thanks in advance

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

If you're in a motorhome then there are Aires de Service de Camping Car in many French towns.  There are Aires in Dunkerque and Calais but whether they will be open at New Year I'm not sure.  Perhaps an email to the Office du Tourisme will give an answer.

Edited  in view of the comments below!  Sorry I misread the dates of the original site, but there is a municipal site in Dunkerque which on UKCS says it is open all year!  I would check first, though.

The site in your link says closed 01/12 to 01/03. The op will struggle to find an open campsite, the French don't really do winter camping except for skiing. However The motorhome parking area at the end of Calais seafront & visible from the ferry port is accessible at anytime & at that time of yr you will have no problems parking a motorhome on a seafront car park in most coastal towns.

There are much nicer places to park than Dunkirk & Calais though & if you head down the coast past Boulogne it gets much nicer with plenty of small seaside towns where you could park a motorhome on the seafront no probs & you might even be lucky with an open campsite.

I agree with all that's said so far.

The best idea I have is that you could start with the beachfront motorhome Aire in Calais itself - with nice restaurants on your doorstep, actually by the beach ,and just a stroll into the town -  though the hooting of the ferries through the night is distracting as it's right opposite the harbour entrance.

Then the campsite at Montreuil sur Mer - La fontaine des Clercs is open all year - but Montreuil is no longer actually sur mer. There might however be buses to the coast from there.

I think I'd go to Paris instead

...This site at Wimereux next to Boulogne might be open but I suggest you check with them direct. Not great reviews & will be pretty bleak over new yr but walking distance of Wimereux which is a nice little seaside town full of very expensive restaurants, so could be a good bet.

If you have a look back at UKCS campsite search, then select French sites, then Open All year - you will see a selection.  There are several in Normandy, but without going through them all I'm not sure which are near to the beach.

Appreciate the time taken to respond, think I will struggle to convince the family to stay in an aire and yes defo needs to be walking distance to seafront.

Anywhere on the coast Normandy, Pas de calais would be fine. Had originally planned Paris but plans have changed so just wanting a quick popover.

But will consider the des clercs site as I had not come across that one, thank you.

There is just their 'normal' website but it does show a different telephone number to the one on the UKCS link which is the link I put on in my earlier post.

I suppose as we've already linked to the UKCS on then it will be OK to put the normal details on here. The website is http://www.bray-dunes.fr/tourisme/campings/ and the phone number and other details:
222 Rue de l'église
59123 BRAY DUNES
Dates d’ouverture : 01/01 au 31/12
Email : camping-bd at wanadoo.fr
Tel.: 03 28 26 61 54 – Fax:03 28 26 57 63

There are 2 Aires de campingcar at Le Touquet. It's a very pretty, reasonably large, upmarket seaside resort with plenty to see and do.

There's a phone number here.
