Have you been to Ypres for the daily Last Post ceremony at 8.00 pm?   Half the audience there was in tears when we were there last year!

We are staying in Ypres for a week in early June. The Last Post is top of my "must do" list.

Last year we went to Arnhem to visit the Hartenheim Airborne Museum at Oosterbeek. Also very impressive.

I think the document mentioned in an earlier post in this thread should be 'pinned' somewhere, as it's so important for anyone visiting Normandy - who may not know about the restricted travel arrangements.

JD6E, Thank you so much for the pointer.  Looks like I'm going to have to completely re-think my plans. I'm really disappointed but not half as disappointed as I would have been if I hadn't had the warning!!

At least our site is outside the "no-go area"  From what I can make out the restrictions are only in place 5-8 June, so we'll probably do all our d-day themed visits earlier in the week and the more "touristy" things later.

Once again, very many thanks for the heads-up!!!

Well, it's been decided now that the MOD aren't processing non-veteran accreditations after all.

They are now being dealt with by a French Departmental office in Calvados. Details are available here: Link

When they change their minds again I'll re-post new details if I can

Other resources about the actual ceremonies can be found Here and Here

Well, plans have changed again. The close-down will only now be in place on Friday the 6th.
No sign of any contact from the French Authorities but in response to my e-mail asking for info, our campsite replied that we will be given forms on arrival which we can complete and take to the Prefecture to obtain our Passes!
Yesterday they e-mailed again with a vehicle details form attached asking for it to be completed and returned with a copy of the V5C document. At least the car will be able to get around but sadly on it's own

We went to Pegasus Bridge a few years ago, (on crutches, I couldn't actually walk over the metal bridge with a criss-cross floor; it was, "A Bridge Too Far," but that's another story)!

Anyway, the whole Pegasus Bridge site was amazing. When you look at the gliders & what the men, on both sides, had to do & the losses incurred, it was truly humbling. The place kept my 2 sons, (1, with teenage apathy oozing from every pore), absolutely spell-bound for about 4 solid hours. They were able to go over the actual bridge, go into the gliders & into some of the original units. The attached museum is really interesting & the remembrance gardens very moving.

Whatever is going on this summer, if you get the chance, Pegasus Bridge is a must, I can't recommend it highly enough!
