Can anybody recommend a good veterinary surgery in either the Vendee or Normandy?

Will be travelling with two dogs that will need to be vaccinated no more than 5 days before returning to the UK.

Our itinerary is 12 days in the Vendee and then 3 days in Normandy before heading north to Calais and home to dear old Blighty!

Using a vet's in Calais is not really an option due to the travelling plan and I doubt that the old gendarmerie would take too kindly to a twin-axle outfit being parked a la high street other than whilst waiting at a set of red traffic lights!

Last year we we stayed a few days at 'Camping Municipal le Colombier' at Offranville just to the south of Dieppe. We enquired about a vet at a nearby tourist office and were told that there was a practice in Offranville itself just a short walk from the campsite. In fact the lady at the tourist office rang them and was only too pleased to book an appointment for us. (It's what they do). The vet spoke good English.

Your dog will not need vaccinating just a worming tablet. You can take your own if you like.

The vet we used was G Hue, 115 Rue de la Libération,
76550 Offranville, France.

Phone number +33 2 35 85 48 82

Good luck

We used to try to pre-arrange vets before leaving the UK but have discovered that a quick walk around a french town of village will reveal vetinary surgeries.

So for the past 5 years we have just walked in to a surgery and asked for an appointment for the pet passport checks.

Wifey used to work for a UK vet practise as a Receptionist and so we took the necessary drugs with us (obtained at trade price) and got the French vet to administer them.

Never really had a problem.

From memory about £30. That seems to be the going rate.

Oh! that's interesting about what treatment the dogs require and the fact that you can take the medication with you!

Thank you for your advice. We were worried that we would need to pre-book an appointment as we do here in the UK. Our local vets currently runs appointments about a week in advance - unless it's an emergency where a number of appointments are allocated at the start and end of each day.

Not sure if needing to get the dogs treated prior to embarking on a ferry counts as an emergency or not!
