Archie - of Archie's Camping has now sent me some important news for users of Camping Cheques, and ACSI.

The Best Deal Discount Camping group have now decided to make their discount scheme open to people in the UK. Previously you had to have an address in mainland Europe. This is free to join, and gives you a discounted rate on 1,100 campsites (increasing each year). You can register on line for the card, here at Camping Card Best Deal and you can download their guides. The 'card' is emailed to you to print off and stick together.   I'm not quite sure yet of the discounts applicable, or quite how it works, but a lot of Dutch people have moved over to using the Best Deal Camping Card and the Dutch are very canny 'discount' users..

A lot of 'favourite' sites of UKCS forum users seem to be available through the scheme, but I've yet to find out all the details.

I'll email Archie to find out more details, but in the meantime I suggest that anyone interested should register, print off your completely free card, and then explore their website.

Thanks for that.

In the past I got a card by using my nephew's Antwerp address

I did get a BestDeal card a few years ago, but haven't used it much. I found that most of their sites (in France anyway) were the same ones which accepted the ACSI card. One difference was that BestDeal did accept the card on some sites in peak season too, but by no menas on all sites.

When I was in France earlier last month I tried to update the app on my tablet, as it wouldn't let me do it from the UK; the result was that the only update was for 2016.

Perhaps they're trying to include more countries now, like ACSI. Reading their website it certainly looks that way. But their offer only includes "around" 560 sites in Europe, so not that many (yet). That is from the Dutch version, so I don't know where you read the 1100 sites, Val, I certainly never read that, only the "around 560".
Looking at a few sites at random, they all also accepted ACSI at the same price.

Perhaps worth keeping an eye on in future.

Hi Ina, the 1100 campsites quoted is on the front page of the English version of the website. http://www.campingnavigator.com/en/

However, I've discovered that they feature a lot of sites, but only the ones with the Best Deal banner offer a discount. Yes, the discounts are broadly the same as ACSI, but as the card is free and emailed to you, then why not? At least if you lose an ACSI Card (which has happened to someone) then you have another string to your bow!

The Best Deal Camping Navigator website also gives useful information about sites which don't accept the card.

I have had my Best Deal Camping Card for Many years, however after I signed up, they seem to stop accepting UK members, and I was unable to update my Address details.

It is That Old it is Branded as "Kosmos Camping Wijzer" rather than Camping Navigator, but the Card does not have an expiry date. It is also a Plastic Credit card type, rather than paper one that needed to be printed out.

I have only used it a few times over the year, but it is a useful to have.

This Summer I have noticed that they have increased their Marketing emails, and receive them quite regularly from Nancy at Camping Navigator with suggestions.

Best Regards
Nathan

It's difficult to work out the discounts from their website & also what dates the discounts apply. Particularly as many campsites have their own special offers up to early July & late Aug on. If the card is as good as ACSI then it's not worth paying for ACSI but it's not clear if it is.

For those of us that go to specific sites where ACSI discount pays for the card & more then one needs to do the maths & that cannot be done if the info is not clear.

I agree with Opensauce that it needs to be worked out for price. From what I can see it doesn't quote the "all in" price of ACSI, so could end up more expensive than you realise.

Having said that, thanks to Val for flagging this one up. All routes to more economic camping are appreciated!
