We go Caravanning and not to a 5***** Hotel, we love walking ,nature, countryside etc.( and a nice Pub in the eve.) our telly is hardly ever used.

Yes small world!  Actually there appear to be a few caravans with green stripes in my pictures LOL!  We were on the right hand side just as you come into the field - we had quite a few flags flying!

We did actually post on this forum before we went - if you do a search for Beltane the threads will come up - we met up with another UKCS member - Dave.

See you next year!

yes, my o/h mentioned the proliferation of green striped caravans we were pitched looking onto the big fire, surronded by tents.
will look out for you next time.

Yes I’m a proud owner of a crappy old caravan 3 berth folding of undetermined age and make (pos Sterkeman?) it’s sound, solid and dry but could do with a repaint and the interior could do with a good revamp. However everything works it’s very easy to tow to the extent I get better fuel consumption from my 1.6 Zafira than I do when I don’t have it hitched up Umm mainly due to driving much slower lol.
Anyway where ever I go and whatever the site we always seem to be surrounded by huge shine new caravans pulled by equally shine new Chelsea tractors. Now I know other people have crappy old caravans but where are they??? Where do they go??? Is there special crappy old caravan sites??? Is there a crappy old caravan club???

No such thing as a crappy old caravan, you bought it you use and it is your pride and joy and what is more it does the job you want it to. I would welcome you as a next door neighbour on any CC site that I am on. My outfit is my lovely new caravan ( well it was 8 years ago when I bought it and I still think of it as such ) and my 6 year old Mondeo ( that was a year old when I bought it, however I can easily see the time 6 years from now when I am towing my 14 year old van with my 12 year old Mondeo.

Hay, less of the crappy! We are proud owners of a 22 year old 2 berth ABI which is towed by a 170,00 mile 10 year old Avensis, We paid £750 for our Rosie (caravan) & owned her for around 5 years, during this time she has given us warmth, shelter & loads of holidays & weekend breaks all over the country. She is kept well serviced & we are proud of the fact that we owe nothing in the way of finance on ether the car or van & in my oppinion our little caravan does exactly the same job as a new one. I was looking at a brand new one the other day at our local dealers & inside it had the exact same layout as ours!

I think if people want big new caravans, then they are entitled to have them. Just as I'm entitled to have my quirky, tiny, crappy caravan. I care that they are friendly quietish people more than I care what van they've got. They like the latest shiny model. I like to be unique....all is fair in love and war

The thing Is

With All These Elderly caravans

why cant Caravan site owners have special areas sheilded away from the nice shiney new vans so not to spoil the overall apperance of the campsite ?

Hi

I wouldn't want to be put away somewhere because I don't think that I'd spoil the look of the site. If a campsite told me to go behind the bushes so that I didn't spoil the look of the place I'd be off in the other direction, I'm proud of my little van.

My 1990 Swift Corvette Diamond has everything a new van has, oven, hot water etc. but feels more solid even though it's light. I love it. Had a couple of damp problems that I sorted myself. It was the best £600 impulse buy I've had. I was only out in the car for a bottle of wine and came back with a caravan. Wife loves it, although she did make me go back for the wine,

Our 1990 Silverline Nova Princess GT. Best present OH ever bought me. Had a lovely weekend at Stoneleigh kit car show, Warwickshire.

Small (10ft x 5'7") but perfectly formed with everything you need. Some friends of ours even bought one after seeing ours last year. They went all the way to Preston from Weston-super-mare to collect it.

Good grief what a day I have been trying to post this all day anyway

Maybe I should have called this post Over the Hill old Caravans which sounds a bit nicer to the old girls. Maybe it would be good to find a few site’s around the country which could be designated Old caravan friendly (or something like that) so we had more chance of bumping into each other.

I have been having a think and search on the net today about all the things I could do to tart up my van but if I did everything I what to do it would be cheaper to buy a better van. So will stick to basic improvements that will mainly involve what I have lying about in the garage. So far this is a tin of wood stain varnish, a can of black smoothright, a sewing needle and some red cotton (is red ok to use on brown fabrics?   Hummm maybe not) none of which I am competent to use but what the heck can’t make it look worse ......can I? I am good at wiring and have already replaced the rear lights with LED units which are much more reliable than the nasty old bulb units and not to heft price at £30 for both units, although they were a bit of a pain to fit.

nevermind exclusive sites for old caravans. i think we should all make a point of pitching up right next to big al to lower the tone and blow his street cred.
