We have been camping and now caravanning for the past 17 years and we have been very luck throughout that time.   We have had a couple of run ins with both kids and adults alike and just felt it was something and nothing.  On one site, a rather well known commercial site in the new forest, a group of parents who had obviously agreed to have a meet up, only produced 3 mini moto motor bikes and had their kids driving these horrible noisey things up and down the access road to the caravans.  Did a warden appear and ask them to stop, no and to be honest I did not either.  The second run in was with a little girl, of about 5 or 6 riding her bike inbetween our awning and car.  Twice I tried to ask her to be careful because of the guy lines etc, but to no avail.  I have two citris oil burners which I use in the evenings to keep the mozzies away, and unfortunatly this little darling rode into one of my guy lines and fell againt the oil burner sending the oil flying all over my awning... grrrrrr  I was a little upset.  Luckily no major damage but upsetting none the less.  We do not camp on Bank Holidays or any school holidays.  We are off to Norfolk next week, despite the promised heatwave!! :) and hope to have a nice peaceful time.

these posts i ahve just read concern me becuase in some situations i may be seam as a caravaner from hell.

I have two children 4 year old girls and we set up the caravan and awning and then use wind breakers to seperate our area, and i dont let them go out of our area and do not let them play ball games i would be annoyed if they did something to some else's caravan. but were fellow caravaners might find us annoying is that at times my twins fight like cat and dog and can be heard everywere and if that is not bad enough we have 2 dogs who most of the time are good and we tie them up but occasionaly they have a 10 minute barking period, it would be good to know how you would feel if you were next to me or near me with this noise becuase i really dont want to cause any one problem, expecailly as new to caraving i enjoy the communtitiy side of it

Not at all Jimmy12388, I have two children who fight like cat and dog, and my 3 year old crys an awful lot!!  Your always going to get noise, but the main thing is that we show respect to other campers, which alot of people seem not to do!

I would be put out if the noise was continuous, but occasionally would be expected. After all kids will be kids. I use to fight with my brother!

Dogs barking can be a nuisance especially if it was early in ther morning or late at night!

There has to be give and take.

As I have said on here before we had a neighbour from hell - swearing, playing loud music and revelling to the early hours of the morning and not getting up till late the next day and starting all over again.Everyone complained nearby with out the management doing anything about it. So I took the matter into my own hands. I would either late at night or very early in the morning get a couple of sliced pieces of bread cut them into very small cubes and throw them on to the roof of his caravan. He then got invaded by seagulls who sounded like they had clogs on their feet. you could hear the family moaning about the amount of seagulls. I know it was terrible but made me feel better.

I love it, bl***y brilliant. I hate going to non CC sites as we usually have a bad experience, we have an 11 year old son: if he did anything to cause a nuisance he would be seriously grounded and made to apologise to those concerned. I'm all for CC rules and the enforcement of them!! Enabling all to enjoy their break away.

One reason why we tend to stick to CL's. Less chance of neighbours from hell and more peace and quiet .....and we have two youngish children who are generally well behaved. I never cease to be amazed how some other children and adults behave in life in general to be honest. Lazy parenting isn't always the reason but I believe has a lot to do with issues society has these days

It's quite sad to read these posts but I'm afraid it does seem to be society today. No time for anyone, poor manners and very bad behaviour from both sets of children and parents. It happened to me last year on a site in Cornwall . I had two children and there father trying to shoot each other with bb guns. ( I kid you not) there was plastic bb balls flying everywhere . I wanted to politely ripp the chaps head off but my wife kept telling me not to get involved as if I did anything he would just call the police. I got so frustrated I had to go on a drive for a hour to calm down. By the way he was asked to stop by another couple were he just laughed and carried on. The sad thing was I went to the owner who said he would have a word but I know he didn't. The really annoying thing is if you were to do it to there property they would be screaming from the roof tops

I have had problems like this in the past and have spoken to the warden. On most ocassions this has been all that is needed. I understand that some of these 'people' are very confrontational, and the sites need to make money, but the wardens must remove trouble makers. We should all mark sites that have problems and avoid them. By doing this wardens will have to enforce the rules.

What a catologue of disasters!  And then they blame teachers for failing schools!  Me and `er only go away outside school holidays.  I do feel it for you who have families and can`t do this.  Some people are just thugs.  They have thuggish kids and the obligatory Staffi.  Shame, cos I like Staffis . . .

On our first trip with our van there was this guy packing his tent away just across from us, he had his car stereo that loud our van was vibrating ( large sub in the boot)!
And when he opened the rear car door to put something in there was a new born baby in a car seat

Y`know, when you hear about and see loutish behaviour by adults as well as kids, huge caravans and motors to match . . you wonder what line of business they`re in. . .  . . these things don`t come cheap . . !  My suspicious mind`ll get me into trouble one of these days

Funny you should say that, peterws. I though that money was tight at the mo' but on a fairly expensive british campsite last summer we saw lots of evidence of apparent wealth in the vehicles barging round the site.
Loadsa money and no breeding.

My only experience of a cc site (park copice) was very load music that carried on till the early hours. No wardens seen for the whole week! Glad to hear they are not all like this. It would be great if one of the search criteria on the campsite directory was strict, well enforced rules! I would much rather stick to strict rules and not have someone else spoil my holiday!

CLs are the way forward, with a small child we can't do adult only sites so we pick sites which don't have the facilities that the uncultured want!
