Hi everyone haven't been on for a while, too busy looking for caravans! Seen a few at the dealers and a few private at a max weight of 1320kg approx should be ok. Spotted one recently (private) Bailey pageant champagne 2002 with extras £4200. Is this a reasonable price? Would it be a good idea to get an engineers pre-purchase inspection and how reliable are these kind of reports? Sorry for all the questions but i'm still a bit knew to all this..

thanks Nutkins.

thanks for the links really helpful. Just started seeing quite a lot of ads like this...
http://www.caravansforsale.co.uk/touring-caravans/swift/swift-utopia-520-top-of-the-ran-cs535433.aspx
There seems to be suddenly a few like this scattered around the UK on various websites. Is it me or are these too cheap to be true??

That link might be a bargain but its simple to tell a scam, they will want payment first & then offer to deliver the(non existent)caravan & you ain't daft enough to do that so no problem really. Main thing is to view caravan, check for damp as suggested & ensure caravan is seller's to sell by checking Cris number on Hpi website(you have to pay for check)Its not unusual for seller to be genuine but has not updated registration & caravan could turn up stolen several owners before so always do check before buying.

We've a seen a nice looking Abbey Aventura 325 one with L shaped lounge/side dinette on the internet. They have the same model at our local dealers in Brighouse so we'll go take a look. Just wondered what others experiences are of this layout, and what the pros and cons would be?? opposed to conventional parallel seating arrangement. There is only my wife, me and 10 year old daughter.

I cant understand why a private seller wouldnt have a van serviced to enhance the chances of a sale. And i cant understand why a buyer would buy one that hadnt been recently serviced/checked over. Damp is only one issue, there could be all sorts of stuff wrong besides.

Don't worry Mick I intend to cover my back with an independent caravan engineers inspection before any private purchase if there's no service or such. Hopefully they're pretty reliable.
What are your thoughts on the L shaped lounge conundrum?

Just found this one tonight...

http://www.caravansforsale.co.uk/touring-caravans/bailey/bailey-ranger-500-cs541762.aspx

The reply to my email enquiry was...

Hello Ian,

I appreciate your intent of buying my caravan . The caravan stands in perfect condition and it is CRIS registered.Paint is good ,no dings or dents .We also are both non smokers .
Our last price is 5500 GBP.
We bought the caravan from UK when we was in a holiday in Scotland.
The reason for selling it now is that we are couple of pensioners (i have 60 and my wife has 58 years old), we love spending our time traveling around the world by plane, so a caravan is no more useful for us.
We are living in Verviers , Belgium but if you are really interested to buy our caravan we are ready to come to UK at the end of the week and you can take a look . Where do you live?
Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks

Fabian and Célestine Josué

I'm totally lost for words!

If you go to brighouse (tourer world)?? Remember to bargain hard, ask for a 2 year guarantee and don't take any sales talk!!
Good luck in finding your van

No worries, nutkins,
As you may have guessed I got my caravan from there and to be honest I love it, its on a seasonal pitch at upwood park near howarth and can't wait to get back up in march.
They are typical salesmen at tourer world but ultimately its the caravan you are buying and if you can wade your way through the sales patter you could be on a winner.
Just be sure the caravan is complete,(carpets ect)

Was down Brighouse Tourer World on sunday looking at a compass magnum 424 2002 on at £5995. Suppose if i managed to get 2 year warranty plus awning wouldn't be a bad deal..dunno what do you reckon, have you been happy with them so far? Some of the stock they have in my price range £4-5000 seems a bit ropey to me and i'm not an experienced caravanner. Thinking of going over to Leisurewise Wakefield at the weekend, they've got a couple that have caught my eye. Does anyone have experience of them?

Sorry, you can NOT post a reply.
