I put duck tape over my vents, the gas one or fridge I taped up completely, the one for gas cooker too, the one for the fridge I taped up except for the top row, nothing went wront, we were warmer and we are still alive.
I have also put woodern skirts around the van too, it stops a lot of wind blowing up through the vents etc, there is still ventaltion there and I think it is plenty too.
When in storage I would open them all up but while its being used the windows and door are open through the day which is plenty to draw and moisture/condensation out of the van etc

Thats where we were Andy, at Knockhill race circuit! Thank you everyone, at least I know now that its not just the Hymer! The vent are most definitely overkill, like 2 large holes in the side of caravan + one in the floor! Guess we'll do as you suggest and tape them up when not using gas etc and buy a C02 alarm.
Nora, it is a brilliant, very sturdy caravan, we bought it last year, its a 2006 and we bought it from a private seller. Yes, they are heavier than British caravans but the build and fitments are wonderful. I'll get the weights and let you know, also if you want some pics could email to you. We had a Geist before and that was wonderful too, we just had to downsize. I'd certainly recommend it, the heating is great...just have to wear thermals in winter to combat the draughts!

Thank you for that. I think the newer ones may be a bit lighter. Don't worry about your draughts they are normal.
I'm glad you like the van we are thinking of looking at one.

The Newer 470s are heavier than the early ones. The draft does not come from the fridge vents the fridge is very well fitted, however for those who do not know the van there is another fridge type vent fitted behind the cooker and it is this that causes the draft. I have since 2003 had a fridge vent cover on the Oven vent permanently and inside I have blocked the place where that vents into the caravan living are with a duster. It works all draughts eliminated.

Thanks a lot for that Bill...again! You helped me a lot last year prior to purchase. You were not wrong, it is a brilliant caravan, we love it!

Hi
I have just bought a Hymer Nova 470 2003 (our 2005 Abbey was full of damp!!)
The feel and quality appear so much better than the UK vans.
We have no information on it, but have read with interest posts especially from Bill/Janus.
We are still a little unsure about awning size, either 910 or 940.
Any information would be very welcolm.

Thank you in anticipation.
Kind regards,
George

Hi George,
Great choice! We bought a 470/2 early last year after much advice from the great people on here! I haven't got round to buying an awning yet, but the following advice was given to me by Janus on this forum. He helped with many questions I had and must say, glad I took the advice, brilliant caravan, anyway, here is what he said about awnings, and his is a 2003 too.

I bought it new, I use an awning my awning is an Isabella 940cm ( apparently a European size ) both Isabella and Lowdhams said a 925cm awning would be correct but for me it was much too short and since the new awning never left LOwdhams and I had expressed the opinion that it would be too short they sought out a good alternative for me. The actual rail length is 336cm, it is also a bit tall for most porches though I do use an Isabella Minor in the winter on mine the major is just too long it would come down in the middle of the window, we have oftern thought of Buying a 750cm awning and having it set up to use as a porch ( it must be a 750cm, the 775cm is too long.

Hope this helps!

Judy

All vans seem to have this my last coachmanhad this also our bailey.

Our Bailey had this problem, but our current Trigano does not. It only has one fridge vent at the back, and with the winter cover on it is snug and warm in the middle of winter.

940 is the one you want. Now I have an Isbella 940 in the garage that I bought with the van in 2003. I have not used it for two years so it may ( note the may, i would need to talk to my accountant about it over tea ) be available to buy. I have not thought about price so I will post agin later. We are in Rochdale lose to j21 of M62.

Hi,
Thanks for that, it is a problem having a two berth and two grandchildren!!
Thanks for the information, perhaps after checking with the accountant you could let me know.
Any other info. on the caravan would be appreciated, such as the order the cushions are laid out to make up the bed etc.
I read on another topic that the battery could be a problem, I have an elecsol sealed battery, do I need to change it do you think??
Again thanks for the help,
Kind regards,
George

The boss she says no, sorry. There are some very windswept sites we use where the full awning would be more stable as opposed to the 750cm we use now as a part awning. But 940 is definitely the size. Lowdhams initially sold me a 925 as that was the size that Isabella recommended, but I was sceptical so arranged to pull it though the rail when I collected the van, but o me it was much too short just about a fit but with little or no room for manoeuvre if the pitch was not level. So they took it bak in and asked me to give them a few days. Later in the week they said they had a 940 that I could have at the same price, they alo said tht the 950 would have been much too loose.

I presume you have the handbook? I have also got the original brochure for 2003 which I can turn into a PDF and post online for you to download if you would like that.

Anything else you want to know let me know, I have used the van for 11summers now and have spent about 750 nights in it. Wonderful van, I shall never replace it.

We make the beds up length ways and sleep along the seat cushion. The corner cushions I put on the cooker, and the chest I put on worktop by the door with a towel underneath. On one side I put the back rests on the outside under the window, with the main cushion in the middle, at the bottom of the bed in the middle I put the large flat cushion and by the wall I put the little hard round ones. Since SWMBO likes the lions share, on my side I split the backrest and put one either side of the seat cushion.

When I replaced the gel battery that was original equipment I just bought a good leisure battery, put a vent tube in to the outside, and moved the switch on the charging unit to lead acid instead of gel. It works for me. When Lowdhams serviced it they told me they were not allowed to fit them that way, but had no real problem with it. I now have it serviced at home and the first tome he came he also commented on it but again has no problem with it and no longer says anyting.

You tell me what you want, I scan it and put it online and then send you a link to download from. It would be the weekend now, I think every minute of tomorrow has been half inched by the wife for my mornings labour, my grandson for the afternoon and for my sick dog to be taken to the vets late afternoon.

I have just re read your post, the manual is long but I van scan it, the brochure is easy, I will post a link over the weekend.
