Hi there,
Have just bought a 2.0 litre diesel Citroen Picasso fitted with a tow bar and twin electric points, why is there two ?
B-I-L has a caravan and I,m sure he only has one connection point.
Thinking about buying a caravan now we,ve got a tow bar !! LOL
What type/size of caravan could I pull with it ?
TIA

One socket is for the trailer road lights and the second is for the fridge, battery charging etc. Newer vehicles use a 13 pin socket which covers both functions.

As for what you can tow, it depends on what the car is exactly? Is it a Xsara Picasso or a C4 Picasso? If it's a C4, which gearbox? We need more information to answer this question?

Can you buy and adaptor to turn 7 pin single in to a double? curious

As a child my families menu consisted of two choices: take it or leave it.

You can get a second socket and mounting plate and wire it up to cover the caravan functions, these need permanent live feeds that only supply when the engine is running. This prevents flattening the battery when you are parked, waiting for a ferry etc.

If there is only one 7pin socket on car then you plug in black 12n plug from caravan which works the road lights, you don't need an adaptor you need to wire another 7pin 12s socket into car to plug in the other plug from caravan to work fridge & charge battery.

To the op, how old is your caravan? If built within the last 3 years the single socket will be 13pin type & you can either buy a cumbersome double adaptor to plug into car to work road lights & fridge & battery charger or a single 7 to 13pin adaptor just to work road lights.

If caravan is old & only has one plug then it will be 7pin to work just road lights..unless he has had it converted to the newer single 13pin plug.

Your car should be ok to tow up to about 1100kg but with only 90bhp I'd stick to under a tonne for reasonable performance.

I think that about covers it.

hi, Brian think your socket questions been succinctly answered, if you do decide to go for a caravan then both the caravan club & the caravan and camping club, have an outfit matching facility but if memory serves you have to be a member to use these, otherwise you could look here

but to use any of them you'll need to have an idea ot make, model and age of caravan you wanting to match your car to

I have the Picasso 2lt HDI and pull an Elddis Wisp 350/2. A very lightweight 2 berth van and it pulls it with no problems. I get an average of 38mpg when towing. Maximum towable weight for the Picasso is 1300kg. There are quite a few caravans within that weight limit, just depends on what berth and size you need. I only have a small van as I'm usually on my own or with my daughter and Max of course.(my dog)

The grey socket also works the reversing lights on the caravan, just so that you are aware. Not a lot of people know that.
