We are looking forward to another fantastic year at Inwood. Most of the improvements we promised for 2014 have now been delivered. We now have 2 sets of woodland showers close to some of the main camping areas and plenty of long drops dotted around the site. The central facilities area still has the flushing toilets and hot showers. We will stock more in the shop and get the Snack Shack going when you can't be bothered or need a great cup of coffee.
Inwood is still large and varied, with its grassy meadows and all different sorts of woodland camping. Mark and Bruce are back for another year to help you when needed. Campfires and dogs are positively encouraged and there is always wood for sale, as well as our unique campfire grills for hire.
For 2015 the grove of chestnuts will provide a new area of dappled woodland camping and has a couple of new self-contained meadows suitable for three or four tents.
Our grassy meadows, enclosed within the mixed woodlands, and our large open field with views over the rolling North Wessex Downs to the North West remain, as do the numerous places to pitch within the woods themselves.
You can go into the deciduous mixed woods, or go for what we call the Gothic camping and pitch within the stands of great fir trees. Oddly enough these areas are particularly good for large groups who have created extended tent villages in what has been described as a huge green cathedral.
Inwood has large areas of un-camped woodland to explore within the site, places to build dens, and to get a bit lost in, as well as much wildlife, deer, rabbits and many birds including at least one pair of Nightingales.
Bushcraft lessons will be available most Saturdays provided by Shaun and can be booked through the online booking system. Watch this space for further developments.
You are not far from Jane Austen country, she lived in Alton, which is nearby and is a base for walks and tours of Austen country.
Old Basing, which is just the other side of Basingstoke is surprisingly rural, has an historic ruined castle, canal walks and is well worth a visit.
Unsurprisingly you are not very far from a traditional pub. The Queen Inn in Dummer is the closest and is accessible by foot from the campsite through the back field.
While most of our visitors will be trying to get away from it all, Basingstoke is only a couple of miles away and is host to some pretty spectacular shopping malls as well as the Basingstoke Leisure centre which has it all. Ice Skating, Leisure Pool, Bowling to name but a few.
