Relaxed Camping & Glamping in Rural Nottinghamshire
Tranquil and secluded, Little Oak Campsite is tucked away near the market town of Retford, in north Nottinghamshire, deep in the heart of Robin Hood country. Surrounded by fields and a beautiful wild garden, it is a charming spot and a brilliant family play space for hide-and-seek, football and outdoor fun. It can be booked as a whole for groups or parties, or on quieter weekends, it can act as an intimate romantic space. And with a mix of camping and glamping accommodation available to suit different budgets and tastes, there something for everyone. Recent guests said it reminded them of a secret garden!
Please note there is an indoor toilet. And although shower facilities are not available just now, we will have them in place for Spring 2017. There is no electricity for the pitches. Commercial vehicles, caravans or camper-vans are not allowed.
The Town and Station are 1.5 miles or 3km away. It is a brilliant overnight stop for journeys North to South or vice versa as it is only 3 miles off the A1. It is also only an hour and a half from London Kings Cross by Train. If you are coming by train and have heavy luggage, we provide free pickups and drop backs, but we will need some notice to be able to do this.
There is a great gastro-pub within an easy walk and a cheap and cheerful alternative for when you are feeling a bit skint. You can rent drinks packs (Tea/Coffee/Milk/Kettle/Mugs), Cooking packs (Stove/Cooking Pots/Utensils/Cutlery/Plates/Oil/Spices - you just need to buy the food.), BBQ pack (Same as cooking pack but with BBQ instead of stove). We will also be selling seasonal veg (from our veg patch) and home-made chutneys (from our fruit trees, later in the season jams too). If you book ahead you may be able to order a homemade loaf of bread.
There are lovely walks just outside the front door and there is a good train service to York, Lincoln and Sheffield there are things to do in town and you can always just chill in the beautiful gardens but for longer stays we would suggest you need your own transport, the bus coverage is minimal and somewhat erratic.
There is a pond so little ones would need to be monitored near it, especially if the moorhen has more chicks. We also have a beehive on site, please respect their space, they are our very useful pollinators helping us grow lots of fruit and vegetables. Always look at them from the side and at a reasonable distance.
The owners are friendly and understand your needs as they are experienced campers themselves.
Little Oak Camping is surrounded by beautiful countryside for you to explore. We are an easy walk away from Retford (1.5m / 3km), a charming Nottinghamshire market town with its many independent shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs and canal! Sherwood Forest is just 20 minutes away by car. For city lovers will be spoilt for choice with great road and rail access to Lincoln, York , Sheffield, Nottingham, Doncaster, and Leeds. If you love history then there are 3 castles to visit and loads of stately homes. Theres lots of nearby family attractions for kids of all ages.
When you get to Retford turn off London Road onto Grove Coach Road (there is a post box on the corner). The major road turns right becoming Cavendish Road but you continue straight on, on the very minor road marked restricted byway until you get to a T-junction where you turn right, Little Oak is the first place you see.
We have found that some satnavs take you the wrong way if you use our postcode. Instead use our neighbours postcode DN22 7HB. This gets you to the point on Grove Coach Road where the road turns into the minor road.
