Alstonefield Camping Barn - An Alternative Camping Experience in the Peak District for couples, families, groups of friends, walkers, cyclists, scouts, Duke of Edinburgh and School Groups. Basic venue for corporate bookings for team building - located on our working farm nr Alstonefield, Derbyshire
Reached by an old bridle path our Camping barn nestles at the foot of Narrowdale Hill, providing basic communal accommodation for 1 to 12 persons with car parking.
PLEASE NOTE THE BARN MUST BE BOOKED ON A SOLE USE BASIS AT WEEKENDS. TO HIRE THE BARN FOR SOLE USE FOR A MAXIMUM OF 12 PERSONS THE PRICE IS £102 TOTAL PER NIGHT. If booking over a bank holiday weekend please be aware that it is a minimum 2 night booking.
There is a lovely meadow next to the barn which can be used for camping in addition to booking the barn. A couple of tents are allowed at the back of the barn bringing the maximum number of people at the barn to 16 maximum.
This quaint remote barn enjoys far reaching views and dale walks from the door. Having no electric and no distractions it is the perfect place to switch off from the hassles of a hectic life. Its like camping but you don't get wet!
The ground floor comprises:-
Entrance lobby with coat hooks and plenty of room for storing boots, rucksacks, etc.
Cooking, eating and living area with two large picnic tables,
Kitchen units, sink and cooking bench
Multi-fuel stove - which is purely for heating the barn and cannot be used for cooking. Only dry seasoned logs or smokeless fuel should be burned- enquire when booking.
Wash room with flush toilet and hand wash basin
A cold water tap at the front of the barn for washing dirty boots.
The first floor is very traditional retaining:-
Original exposed stone work
Magnificent internal wooden beams
The Old wooden hay stalls - these have been reused as a feature providing a safety barrier around the stairwell
This large empty room enjoys wonderful views from both windows
Please be aware that our barn is not a suitable venue for loud celebrations parties and hen and stag parties.
No beds or mattresses provided. You need to bring everything with you as if you were camping, except of course the tent.
The picturesque village of Alstonefield is within easy walking distance (about a mile), there is The George and The Watts Russell both serving meals. There is also the Royal Oak at Wetton around one and a half miles away. The nearest shop is at Hulme End (2 miles) where milk, newspapers and provisions are available, there is also the Manifold Inn here which serves Bar and Restaurant meals. Close by are numerous cycle trails, Dovedale, Alton Towers, Ramshaw Rocks and the Roaches (great for climbers), Carsington Water (excellent for all water sports). At Buxton there are vast limestone caverns to explore. Matlock Bath has a cable car to the Heights of Abraham and there is Horseriding at Northfield Farm, Flash.
Directions to Gateham Grange from Ashbourne, Derbyshire to collect the key to the barn
From Ashbourne take the A515 signposted Buxton. Continue on this road for about 5 and a half miles and then turn off Left signposted for Alstonefield just before the Newton House Hotel. Follow Alstonefield signs and after about 2 miles you will come to the village of Alstonefield, keep right through village (Hulme End road). One and a half miles outside Alstonefield at first crossroads turn left signposted Wetton. The Farm is immediately on your right.
