A caravan and camping site exclusively for adults (18+) in the Dartmoor National Park, Devon. A tranquil and secluded site that caters for caravans, motor homes, tents and offers peace and quiet. We are AA 5 Pennant and Visit England 5 Star graded and members of Tranquil Parks.
Access is quick and easy from the A382 only 1.5 miles from the A30, the earliest arrival time is 1pm. We are ideal for those wishing to go caravanning and camping in Dartmoor and Devon and an ideal base for discovering Cornwall and the South West. The cathedral city of Exeter is only 18 miles away.
We are surrounded by farm and woodland. Dogs and pets are very welcome. We have some day kennels to hire if you require them. We have a stunning Dark Sky site so when the clouds are not around the views of the stars are fantastic. To keep this we do not have lighting around the site so bring a torch, a very small price for such a splendid view.
Our toilet and shower block with integral disabled facilities, dish washing room and laundry has won a Platinum 2014 Loo of the Year Awards. We are very proud of them. It is heated in the winter months.
We have WiFi, are Calor agents and also have a small shop, small off licence and laundry. In the shop we bake fresh bread to order, have the basic provisions, local cider, beer etc.
If you are out late at night be aware that we lock the gates at night from 11pm to 7:30 am for additional security. There is plenty of space to park in the drive but if you do restrict access to and from the park we will wake you in the morning to move your vehicle. Long Lost Cousin fell foul of this but whilst cars could get in and out they were blocking any caravan or motorhome leaving the site in the morning and preventing any emergency vehicles getting on or off site.
Our information point has a freezer for customers use (free of charge) and a coffee machine that grinds from the bean. Much local information can be found here including local walks. More can be found on the welcome pack and Dartmoor magazine given to all guests. If you want any more ideas of what to do or where to go just ask us.
As we are out in the countryside you do need a directional aerial for your TV, the normal Status 530 aerial (the one with the pole you push up) fitted to most modern caravans is suitable. We also ask all guests to use the environmentally friendly toilet chemicals.
Chris and Jan Patrick own and run the site and would welcome the opportunity to be your hosts.
There is so much to do in the area but nearby attractions and place to see include Castle Drogo, Finch Foundry, Stone Lane Gardens incorporating the Mythic Gardens, Spinsters Rock, Fingle Bridge, Fingle Woods, Lydford Gorge, Becky Falls, all of Dartmoor including all the Tors, stone circles etc, Exeter and its wonderful Cathedral, Plymouth and many other places to numerous to mention. Excellent walks on Dartmoor and in the Teign Valley. Easy to get to the North and South coasts of Devon and into Cornwall. 1 hour to the Eden project, Bude etc.
Coming from either East or West along the A30, turn off at the Whiddon Down junction (signposted Services) and follow the A382 towards Moretonhampstead. At the next roundabout turn left, still following the A382 towards Moretonhampstead. About 1 mile (1.6 kms) from the roundabout you will see the small signpost to Venton with the familiar touring park brown sign, turn left here. Be careful as the signpost is actually just after the turning. We are the second drive on the left.
