Le Chant d'Oiseau is a small family run campsite in the heart of the Loire Valley, known as the 'Garden of France'. Very much like a Caravan Club CL type site in the UK, we have 10 spacious pitches, (min 130m2) all with UK type EHU. The pitches are spread around the edge of a field of almost two acres, which is mainly laid to grass, with shade from the sun from over 40 mature trees and shrubs. The lovely shower block has been fully refurbished & redecorated and it's still full of charm & character, with plenty of free hot water and facilities for wheelchair disabled. We offer meals to guests twice-weekly, which have proven to be quite popular. New for 2010 was our 'Kamper's Kitchen', which houses just that - a fully fitted kitchen! There's a fridge-freezer, full gas oven & hob, kettle and microwave, as well as a washing machine. (Small charge). We can't offer you a club-house or entertainment, just good honest facilities within a safe environment. Games facilities include ping-pong tables, outdoor games, pool table, badminton etc. There's also a lovely treehouse play area with swings for the kids! The bread oven we built proves to be popular, with fouee (a regional delicacy) and pizzas being cooked for guests.
We also have 3 gorgeous gites for hire, (two of which are disabled-friendly). So, why not bring non-camping friends and/or relatives?
Visit the Chateau de Saumur, 22kms to the south, or the Musee des Blindes (tank museum), if horses are more your thing, then the Cadre Noir (French National Equitation College) is well worth a visit. Visit the 'Carrousel' in July for a stunning display of horsemanship. Learn more about the Plantagenet Kings & Queens of England by visiting the Abbaye de Fontevraud (Richard the Lionheart's burial place). Not to be missed is one of France's best days out-the 'Le Grand Parc Puy du Fou' at Cholet (1 hour). West coast beaches are only 2 hours away. No wonder the Loire is known as 'The Valley of Kings' with so many Chateaux belonging to former Kings & Queens of France dating back to the 12th Century!
From Saumur-take the route du Mans out of the town, heading north. Follow signs to Vernantes/Noyant/Le Lude. In Vernantes, follow the D58 signed for Mouliherne. At the crossroads just after the Chateau du Loroux, and directly opposite 'Plaisance', take the right hand lane. (Signposted). Follow for approx. 1 mile, and you'll see Le Chant d'Oiseau is on your right. Coming from the North, and Mouliherne, take the D58 to Vernantes. At the 'Croix du Justicion', turn left. (Signposted from here). Follow the road, taking your first right. Past the farms and Le Chant is on your left! See you there!
