June 2004 Lovely beach which is only a short walk away, but spoilt by the beer cans laying around. The campsite facilities are below average, no toilet roll and basic with no character
The only positive comments are about the beach, which is why this campsite does well and does not have to make any effort and the kids play area, which is quite good.
I did hope this would be a nice site as we only live 40mins away, but won't be going back.

August 2004 Hillend is a vibing site! There are two fields for the young and single and two for families. We went twice this summer and camped in the furthest family field - a bit of a trek to shower block.
Actually the aforementioned block is totally inadequate. Four showers for LOTS of campers and extremely dirty they were too! Rumours were circulating that this was to be remedied for 2005 - I hope so because other than this we love it here.
The surrounding views vary from mountainous to an almost North African dune landscape and there are dreamy views of the Worm's Head from Eddies restaurant . The restaurant serves great food at reasonable prices and the service is amazing - by that I mean 5 minutes after ordering we received four excellent cooked breakfasts - with chips of course!
The staff are almost exclusively young surfers and lovely they are too! There's a good shop and a takeaway.
Site fills up by Friday 2.00p.m on summery weekends and they won't take bookings - so arrive early to avoid disappointment.

August 2004 Just visited this campsite at the weekend and was charged £45 for 3 nights (admittedly it was bank holiday). The facilities were really grotty with no hot water for washing up and certainly no loo roll except for piles of disgarded paper in the corners of the cubicles.
A great location but the Hillend owners are really milking people and charging a lot of money for very poor basic facilities.
Interesting how they've manged to pour cash into the cafe and shop though (obviously making them a tidy profit) shame they're not looking after returning customers though...

August 2004 I stayed here at the weekend and had a good time. No toilet paper or soap in the wash block, no hot water or cover for the washing up. Very short walk through the sand dunes to the beach which I found to be free from litter and glass. Definitely the surfers choice, hire shop in the village and a surf school on site.

02/July/2004 After visiting this camp site I found out that all previous reviews must have been from people who wanted to camp where there is no atmosphere. The Site is very inviting and has wonderful views of the beach.
This is the site to go to if you wanna have fun.

August 2003 Beautiful location.
Noise not too bad in lower family field.
Far too much queing for shower's, especially in ladies. The campsite is far too popular for just 4 ladies showers.
Toilet facilities apart, we all had a good time in this beautiful spot!
Points to note:- * No caravans allowed, * No booking allowed, The weekend we went the site was full by 5.30pm on Friday.
