We stopped at this site during the wettest weather in 50 years and finally gave in when gales arrived. The site has the most fabulous location and is well situated for south Devon. Lots to do on site and the pirate ship was a firm favourite with my son age 4.

Considering the weather the site held up well and while others closed in the area it remained open some pitches fared better than others the upper village green and the meadow area seemed the best.

The site does need some updating the swimming pool is old and not very nice and most certainly needs to be replaced. The village green amenity block is very old and quite grim more like a 2 star AA and not the 4 star it has a present (but I understand it has been down graded) the toilets are small and the shower not nice at all.

The meadow block is better but still not up to the standards of other sites.

Also it well worth knowing the house the site is built around is used for corporate events and weddings, like this weekend certain parts of the site is closed for a wedding including the swimming pool. (you don't get a refund for lack of facilities)

The site needs to decide what it wants to be if they want to be a 4/5 star campsite then it needs to do some updating. Saying all that I would go back but I would wait to tell they have upgraded.

This was our first family camping trip and due to the weather could have been our last (wife cold blooded!) but the kids thought it was fantastic with loads of activities cleverly hidden out sight,slides/fort/zip wire/
climbing nets/pirate ship etc, plus a small outdoor swimming pool but most kids opting for the river instead (don`t forget your wet suits kids!).The site itself as mentioned by others is well looked after by a very helpful staff and this is reflected by the high standard this 90 acre site offers with fantastic gardens and a large selection of wildlife. The washing up stations and toilets were kept clean throughout the day with laundry rooms close by also with freezers for your ice packs. Most of these comments have been mentioned by others in the past but worth a mention is the new bar/bistro which has just been completed and looks very smart indeed offering a selection of hot/cold food which was also to a high standard.
Ashburton is the nearest town with about 5 pubs a small Spar and Somerfields and your average selection of shops,I only ventured into 1 pub The Oak beer was ok but the food seemed
overpriced for what it was.give it a miss.Days out try the moors for walking (take care with the weather) or why not take a trip to Dartmouth.Kids can't wait for the next visit just hope its warmer!.

Revisited Bank Holiday weekend after a lovely weekend at beginning of month. Site was busy but not overcrowded. Nothing too much bother for Tristan and Brett the campsite wardens .The best thing of all was the new bar was open - large, clean, bright ,warm - and the food was well priced, quickly served and tasty! A family of 4 ate for £26 with drinks on top - typical pub grub, but hot and plentiful. Tables were very quickly cleared and wiped and nothing was too much bother for any of the staff! The weather was disappointing, but the wardens ensured the campers were okay and arranged and helped to move those who were flooded. We will be back!

What a fantastic site, We stayed for a long weekend and were pleased to see that although packed out we all had enough space. There was no problem with noise and after spending bank hols last year listening to yobs who had spent £60.00 on a tent and £100 on beer! it was great to really find a site where everyone could have fun, each to thier own.
Only down side was the fact that ladies showers were always cold and they insist on cleaning them at 9.30 when everyone wants to use them.

We were the friends mentioned by 'Selleyd' below and here is our review.

This was our first ever camping trip so did not know what to expect. The site is very large and well away from any traffic noise. Very child friendly with play areas across site.

Staff were mainly young Australian people on working holiday and were very nice and had many a friendly chat with them at the bar.

Only annoying thing was the old style push button shower that gives you about 5 seconds of water before switching off. Don't let this put you off though as it is only 10mins of your life!

They are very strict about noise after dark and numerous signs up telling you the rules. On our stay everyone obeyed them and no problems at all.

We have already booked our week long pitch together next May, except their trailer tent has now become a brand new caravan and our two man tent has become a massive 9 man one. Thank you Dart for giving us the camping bug!
