The location is first class with there being a short walk to Loch Morlich and a short trip up to the Cairngorms or to Aviemore. Plenty to do roundabout and a nice original playpark for the kids.
The toilet blocks are first class - modern, clean and plenty of showers.
Many of the pitches however are potholed and uneven and could really do with some TLC. We arrived on the May bank holiday weekend and there were not many pitches left, it was a bit of a free for all. If you like your pitches well defined with nice wee hedges then this is not the site for you. We have a big trailer tent so it was quite hard to find a reasonable pitch.
Staff friendly and it was good to see wardens walking around keeping order - just make sure you put your sticker on your car and on your tent!
Overall I thought this was a pricey site, what with weekend supplements and may bank holiday supplements meant a three night stay was over 95 pounds.
I wouldn't have minded paying a premium if the pitches were better.

Ideal location - close enough to Aviemore for the shopping, but with ready access to a lovely sunny beach, boat hire, and walking or cycling to match your ability / available time / equipment (for the record, it takes less than 2 hours for two adults to paddle a open canoe round the edge of Loch Morlich.). Fantastic views of the hills. But the site looks 'tired' - it's open all year, I think, and the grass looks worn thin (compared to the thick heather and birch / pine woods outside the site boundary). One area has had its electrics removed, to form a tents-only area. There are areas of hardstanding for motorhomes, that look like car parking ie. they're not subdivided by grass / rocks / bushes. Soft grass areas are filled in with stones, but some vehicles were skidding to get off after dry weather. The pitches are not marked, so the separation wasn't always ideal for privacy. My main gripe is with the management decision to lock half the toilets and showers in the smart new block, even though the site was almost full at Easter. I saw the Warden unlocking some cubicles, and I understand you can unlock them with a penny in the screw fitting (after checking they're unoccupied, of course!)- I wish I'd known as there was a queue for 3 showers at 4 pm with 3 showers put out of action.

This is a great site, even better now they have added the new toilet blocks, which are cleaned to a high standard. The ground can be a bit hard in places for pitching tents, but the site is in a great situation. A two minute walk takes you to the sandy beach of Loch Morlich, where you can do watersports if you wish, also there are loads of walks which are waymarked, and its also a haven for mountain bikers too, with some of the best singletrack in the country being close by. There is a small woodland park for the children, and buses pass the site regularly, and its easy to get anywhere from here, a five minute drive takes you back to Aviemore where you can get everything you need, including lots of shops that sell camping equipment.

We used a tent. It was covered in snow all around the site, we managed to get a pitch in the woods. It was excellent, with all the correct cold weather gear we had a great time. The site was not too busy. The toilets / showers were kept very clean, I think its a lovely site in the winter.
Will be back when next in the area. There is plenty to do in the area,a bus service from outside the site, a lovely little cafe / shop on the edge of the site.

What a great site. We had 3 nights along with our 10 year old daughter and black lab. Cycling was fantastic. Cycle route down to Aviemore great. Facilities great on site and toilets were spotless. Brilliant dog walking. Toilets fantastic. Will definitely go back in the spring. Great play park for the kids. Great cafe next door where we had soup and a roll one lunchtime when we couldn't be bothered cooking! Nice home baking as well. Good shop joined on where you can get the basic plus newspapers.

Arrived on Sunday afternoon; the office was shut! Notice said find a pitch and pay later.
Spent some time looking for a pitch that wasn't waterlogged. The drainage on this site is atrocious. Also most of the existing hard stands are about to be bulldozed to make way for static cabins.
Having said all that the location is fantastic. Loch Morlich is a walk through the trees; the Cairngorm range is to the back of you. With binoculars you can see the top of the funicular. Red squirrels play in the woods, and even come onto site. The local ducks have scrounging down to a fine art!
An hour after we sited it snowed - and did so every day! The area looked great, but the road up to Cairngorm was closed for two and a half days. We eventually got up there halfway through the week of our stay. All I can say is WOW! With snow on the hillsides, clear air (below zero) and incredible views - including of Loch Morlich and the campaite. Oh yes - the weather also kept the midgies at bay!
Facility blocks are new this season - courtesy of a joint venture with the Camping Club - and would be immaculate if people made the effort to keep them so. One was closed throughout our stay, despite 40+ units on site, leaving some units with a long walk in poor weather and ground conditions.
Useful little shop just outside the entrance; does a nice breakfast too! Cairngorm visitor centre is opposite the site, with the Reindeer centre next door. Trips to see the reindeer herd leave every day at 10.00 & 2.00 (latter summer only). They looked really at home in the snow, but beware that the path down the hillside to them can be difficult in such conditions.
Aviemore 'town' is nine miles down the road and has all the usual tourest facilities, as well as a big Tesco and a chemist, and numerous outdoor clothing shops. The Strathspey steam railway also operates from the back of the local railway station. There is a local brewery too!
This is definitely the best site in the area - as long as it stays dry.
