After having visited this site many times before, our group were a bit apprehensive this time as the site has recently had new owners. But from the outset we all were very pleased with how friendly, helpful and professional they were. I rang up and booked 7 pitches (which can sometimes be a problem with some sites!! that won't take block bookings as they class you as a rally), no problem.
The day we arrived we were escorted to our pitches by the site manager, who was very laid back and gave us a whole corner of the field to pitch up away from the main camping field.(funnily enough it was the same corner of the field we have always had!!) It was not marked out so we were able to camp in a circle and have our bbqs etc in the middle.
Newly installed was a porta cabin with more toilets and washing facilities so we didn't have to walk all the way to the clubhouse for toilets etc as we have had to do in the past, great!!!. The icing on the cake though was on Sunday. Many of our friends had left on sunday morning, but 3 pitches had decided to stay on as the weather was so lovely.
We decided to go to the cafe on site for lunch. Talking to the chef he told us that he was serving Sunday lunch only. We all only wanted sandwiches, he then said he would knock us up some baguettes if we wanted them!!. In the end he made up a plate each of a baguette (which were huge) of various fillings, chips, salad and homemade coleslaw for eight people for £2.50 each. What a bargain!!!. That made the weekend as there are not many sites this friendly or helpful. We all will be back very shortly.

Just come back with our friends who are first time campers. This camp site really made our trip. It had an excellent play facility near the pub which had a great function room plus a chill out room with leather settees and pool table. Tent fields were furthest away but a good field with plenty of space per pitch all nicely positioned and marked out. You had to pay 25p per 7 min token for showers which needed some modification but served the purpose. I am sure in the near future work will be done here. They also had toilet cabins close the the tent fields so not to far to walk to spend a penny.
Plans for indoor pool and play area sound great and i can't wait till they are up and running. Shop was basic but again served the purpose but could do with some improvement. Ideal location to get to the Tissington Trail and Dovedale Stepping stones and many more lovely villages and walks. Th evillage of Omaston which was love;y to vsist and has a nice pub serving food there.
The tea pot cafe served up a lovely breakfast for £3.50.
I will be visting this site again for sure, and will be recommending it to all my friends.

Have just returned from August bank holiday at this site and there has been huge changes since new owners have taken over. Pitches closest to main facilities are now taken by static caravans, then next nearest are the electric hook up pitches. Finally 2 camping fields - both reasonably level with generously sized marked pitches. A nice touch was the nearby PortaCabin which contained toilets and washing facilities - however no soap in dispensers and no power to provide hot water in gents. Fair walk to pot-washing area and showers. Good evening entertainment with live shows on Saturday and Sunday. Nice new cafe which provided excellent breakfasts. (During our stay, one particularly noisey group of young campers proved too much for their immediate neigbours and despite their complaints to the site management, they left early as the situation did not improve over the 3 days)

August 2005 I visited this site with my partner and a couple of friends for a long weekend. We camped in tents. The camping field was fine, with toilets nearby. We had quite a bit of rain on the Saturday and throughout the night and I was worried in case the field flooded. I'm pleased to say it didn't. The Cafe on site is great, I would recommend the Big Breakfast which is only £3.50 and you get a refillable tea or coffee. The staff were very friendly. To use the showers you need to buy a token which is 25p for 6 minutes. If you want a shower in the morning make sure you buy your tokens the morning before, as they sometimes run out in the evening. The owners are currently upgrading this site. The Cafe and Pub are nice and modern. The pub has a chill out area which is non smoking and has nice comfy couches and a pool table. They are planning to have an indoor pool for next summer. The showers are not that great, but they serve there purpose, hopefully they will upgrade these soon. I would recommend anyone visiting this site to do the walk to Dovedale to the stepping stones and also to visit the village of Bakewell. I would also recommend the Tandoori restaurant in Ashbourne. I would definitely stay at this site again.

August 2005 Just returned from our first caravaning trip and i must admit I'm impressed. The site is easy to find and has good access (a bonus when new to towing). We arrived at 9.00pm on Friday and were shown immediatly to our pitch which was situated very close to the pub and toilet shower block, all of which are clean. Water is on every field and the atmosphere on the site is very friendly. As for the kids (11 and 13) we hardly saw them as the entertainment in the club kept them amused at night and the play area kept them busy during the day. All in all a great first experience and will definately be returning in the not to distant future.

August 2005 Just got back from a weekend at Peak Gateway we had 3 pitches (3 caravans) it was my friends first time caravanning and was nice and easy to find and get to. The site was absolutely brilliant the manager was pleasant and helpful and showed us to our pitches where we pitched in like a square amongst the trees and put the table and chairs in the middle super. The children’s play area is now completed and all the kids loved it and played there safely until late. Shop sold newspapers sweets and essentials cafe was good and did a great breakfast eat in or takeaway. Toilets and showers were ok tokens for showers were readily available from the bar when the shop was shut only 25p. Found on the last day that there was another toilet block at the edge of the camping field witch was handy. My wife was talking to the manager and he was telling her there were plans for an indoor swimming pool and a minimarket and we think he said an indoor play area which would obviously make a great site even better. Brilliant and can’t wait to go again.
Oh nearly forgot I apologise to anyone we disturbed as we were laughing and enjoying ourselves into the early hours and did not realize it was so late but we did call it a night when asked by the manager only sorry we had to be asked but we had just lost track of time as we were enjoying ourselves so much so please accept my apology if you were there as I would not like to cause distress or ruin anyone’s weekend. :) Monty
