Pat & Nigel, the wardens of this site are really nice, very helpful & obliging people and cannot be faulted. However the site itself, in my opinion, leaves a lot to be desired. I am sure the moors themselves will be a lot flatter than the field for tents, it is very , very uneven.
The grass is cut daily but cuttings are just left and not collected so it is rather messy. We paid for electric but it cut out when we plugged in a travel kettle & when Nigel came to fix it next day we were told it was only 6 amps which I consider very low & I really do expect more. Please take plenty of 10 & 20 pence pieces with you as everything has a price. Showers 20p, hairdryer 20p, and 10p for 1/2 a sink of hot water for dishes, plus more for the washer & driers. The fridge / freezer & microwave were a bonus.
The toilet / shower block was very well kept & always clean. Please be aware that O2 mobiles do not work, we were informed that Orange is best. The highlight of our 3 night stay (should have been 4 but we left early) was the couple of hours spent in the Badger Hounds Pub with the owner Kim & the locals - it was fabulous and so, so friendly.

Very warm welcome by Pat, who showed us to our pitch and where the facilities are. The facilities are spotless and any mud / cut grass are constantly cleaned up. Pat and Nigel are forever on the go tending to the site.

Showers 20p, hot water for washing up 10p, washing machine £2 coin, tumble dryer 50p, iron and ironing board 20p. There is also a fridge / freezer and microwave - no charge but donations asked for.

Three fields for tents - the main one not flat down the middle of it, but the other two fields at the bottom of the site were. These only had washing up and toilet facilities only. Minute or so walk to the showers / laundry facilities from there.

Two fields for caravans / motor homes. All tents/caravans had plenty of room around them and stunning views of the moors. Plenty of info on local things to see / do.

Two pubs in the village - both OK - although I wasn't impressed with the Brown Cow's reference to foreigners either! Little village shop, post office, off licence and also a butchers, fish & chip shop and a deli / bistro and 2 hairdressers.
Runswick Bay about 20 min walk but down a very steep incline - killer on the legs on the way back up! Same for Port Mulgrave. 15 minute drive into Whitby. Hourly bus service between Middlesborough and Whitby.

All in all, everything you need or could ask for - we loved Serenity, so much so we booked on leaving to go back in a few weeks time!

We arrived on a Friday morning, 9.00 am, for a three night stay. We were given a very friendly welcome by Pat, who showed us where we could pitch the tent and all the other facilities.
During our stay we found the toilets were always clean and tidy, no cut grass being on the floor for long! The showers were hot and the piped radio programme really made you feel at home!. The use of the microwave and fridge / freezer was very welcome, something we have never encountered on other campsites.
The site was well situated for visiting small / large coastal places, and also for walking the Cleveland Way. The village offered a very good pub, a well-stocked local shop and, though we did not use it, we received good reports from the Fish & Chip Shop!
Pat and Nigel really made you feel welcome and you felt they were very concerned that you were comfortable and happy during your stay. This is the best camp site we have stayed at in all our 30 years of camping. We will return!

What a little gem, large pitch, very quiet, super clean facilities, the people on site are very friendly, ( unlike the hostile locals in The Brown Cow pub who referred to us as foreigners )

The site is ideal for the East coast, close to lots of walks etc, I can highly recommend the village chippy, just how chippies were when I was a kid.

We will be back!

We have been going to serenity for the past four years now. We usually go on long field on right side of site. This year we were put on hard standing near to tent site and toilet. Every time someone went to toilet and used hand dryer we could hear it, the nose was terrible.

The site seams to be having a problem with the neighbors on both sides. Banging and horses and loud music.

Try it your self its a nice site if they sort this out. Pubs shops fish and chip shop very good in village. £14. 00 a night may.

We stayed at Serenity for the first time this year and despite the weather (gales, blizzards, rain) we had a great time.

The owners were really friendly and helpful, even when I gave Nigel a black eye when our caravan door banged against his face in the wind one evening.

Couldn't understand the complaint about road noise from the village. We didn't hear anything except the sound of distant waves.

Facilities were always completely spotless, despite the site slowly turning into a mudbath due to the sheer volume of rain/sleet/snow and showers an equal match in power and heat to the best hotels that I have stayed in.

Local shop/post office supplies the basics and there was also a butcher in village, which is a rare treat nowadays, plus 2 pubs. Nearby Runswick Bay is a fabulous little place and was great for walking the dogs along the beach. I can imagine, in summer, it will be a very popular place for families, as there are some lovely sands and rockpools when the tide is out.

There are lovely walks from the site in all directions.
