Visited Lobb Fields last weekend.

We were surprised that our pitch looked like it was in the middle of caravans & tents that had already set themselves up !

We actually found this to be ok though as the pitches are quite big.

The shower block was clean & the dog walk was nice. Having a van selling food on site kept our Daughter happy by going to buy ice creams & sweets but they didn't sell much more than that on site. Daughter liked the small play park.

Very handy for The beaches as a very short drive but I believe there is a bus.

We liked the site & will be going back

The kindness and helpfulness of the staff team are worthy of special comment.

My awning fell down while we were on the lovely beach at Saunton Sands, I was phoned by the staff and advised, but told not to worry as they had secured it and all the contents therein.

When the afore mentioned awning eventually dried out, I asked if it could possibly be stored somewhere as we were going on to Cornwall, (there's not much room in a campervan)The duty staff very kindly collected it from me and stored it for a couple of days, they then delivered it back to me on our departure day.

I almost froze to death whilst trying to surf! I was offered use of the Disabled shower, because it had a variable temperature and so I could ensure the water was hot enough to make me feel better. I didn't even have to pay the key deposit.

I am sure the site wouldn't want too many 'disaster cases' but their kindness made all the difference to our holiday, which was very enjoyable despite everything.

The site was spotlessly clean, plentiful hot water no queues, a very central location.

The surf hire shop on site was good value and convenient.

We stayed at Lobb Fields for 2 wet weeks in August and have to commend the staff for their dedication through some seriously heavy downpours for regularly emptying the bins and keeping the shower / toilet blocks clean when parts of the site were turning into a mud bath.

We found the site and wardens very relaxed and other than seeing notices posted in the toilets and washing up areas did not see any evidence that wardens were over zealous about rules.

We thought the fees were a little high for the amenities and beaches were not as close or as easy to access as we had expected. The road to Saunton sands has no pavement and limited verges, it's also a very busy road so walking was treacherous and we opted to take the car, however Saunton sands is on a bus route which passes the campsite entrance so for some this may be preferable.

The beaches around the area are great, we preferred Putsborough beach, a little further away than Saunton sands but less seaweed and clearer water. Beach parking costs are a bit outlandish at 7 per day (5 after 3pm) and no hourly rate for short stay but that seems to be the norm' for the area.

On site, the pitches were very generous in size with large areas left between rows that create a kind of village green feel and provide somewhere for kids to play but a larger area away from cars, tents and barbecues etc would be useful for the more energetic ball games.

The toilet / shower blocks were clean and well maintained with plenty of hot water and no need to queue. As others have mentioned, there are only hooks on the back of the shower door to hang clothes so its a bit tricky to organise yourself and shampoo bottles and probably quite difficult if you are with small kids. My advice would be to take a couple of plastic carrier bags to put your stuff in.

Hot food is available in the mornings and evenings for those who want it and from what I saw looked to be reasonably priced (Full English including hot drink for around 5. 50).

In summary we liked the site and the way it was run by the wardens, we would have preferred it to have been nearer to the beach (for those days when it didn't rain)and think it could have been a little cheaper but this is maybe a trade off we have to accept for having such large pitches with loads of space between rows and no queuing for the showers / toilets.

I haven't felt compelled to write a review before but this campsite warranted positive praise.

We had a prime pitch with electric hookup in the bottom field- a bit of luxury this year for us normally 'plain campers'!

Here is what we liked:

*Large pitches

*Well organised

*Plenty of electric hookups

*Clean facilities, bins regularly emptied

*Hot water anytime

*Felt very safe/had a nice community-family atmosphere with people sitting out in the evening with the kids playing

*Naturally quietened/a murmer after 11am and had no trouble sleeping at all - beautiful!

*Great for the children - playground, large central grass area to play games

*Good local information available

*lovely friendly informative staff

*Close to beaches/amenities

*Some slightly sloping pitches in the middle/top field. Bottom field - incline free.

Can't identify anything we didn't like!

Just an idea: Perhaps an inclusion of a recycle bin at the bin/water point sites.

I should say that the site is not on the beach but it is only a short drive to the nearest beach at Saunton. We liked Putborough Beach, a bit further towards Woolcombe.

We had our bikes with us. It was safe for our son to cycle around the site. There was a cycle path from the site into Braunton but there wasn't a suitable cycle route to the nearest beach. There was, however, a nice cycle along the Tarka Trail from Braunton to Barnstaple and into The Burrows - a biosphere on the estuary, which was moderate and safe for a family ride. The Tarka Inn pub was delightful and served good food.

There is a surf hire hut near reception. The chap was ever so nice. We hired wetsuits and body board for reasonable cost and were given some useful tips/advice on where to go.

Overall, highly recommended. We'd camp there again.

The campsite is in a good location. Near to Braunton, and beaches - Saunton Sands and Croyde. The site is well kept and the staff on reception are very helpful.

We were on a prime pitch (electrical hookup) in the bottom field. The pitches are a very reasonable size, and well marked out. We paid 33 per night, which in view of the amenities, is a bit pricey, although you probably pay for location.

Toilet block is a bit dated compared to other sites we have visited, but it was very clean and we didn't have to queue for a shower and the water was always hot. Only a hook on the back of the door, which was bit annoying as there is nowhere to put bottles of shampoo or shower gel.

The sub shack serves bacon baps, sausage baps, egg, chips, cold drinks, etc, and was used by a number of the teenagers in our group.

You can hire wet suits from the surf shop on site, which was really handy when Saunton Sands surf shop had run out.

We had fish and chips from Squires in Braunton and they were amongst some of the best I've eaten. Some of our party also had a chinese takeaway which they enjoyed. The William Arms was also visited and recommended. There is a little newsagents/convenience shop about a 10 min walk from the site, in the estate next door which seemed quite well equipped.

The only slight disappointment was that there was any open space to play games - cricket, football, etc. Which as a group we like to do.

Would we go again - yes, but if we went in a group again, we may search for somewhere with a bit more open space for games.

Spent two nights here mainly because it was close to Saunton sands.

I thought it was in walking distance but turned out it wasn't.

We ended up taking the motorhome which costed us 9 very pricey.

The site itself was basic. We were in the top half of the middle field. The pitches are a good size, but it was very hilly. Even on the third step of our chocks we couldn't get level. You would need to be careful picking your pitch it would be best to go for hard standing as they are lower down and more even.

The showers were ok but no separate bit to put your clothes, so they ended up getting soaked because they kept falling off the single hook provided. Another couple of hooks would solve this.

There was a small playground in the bottom field, but my daughter was unable to use it because it was always full. Could do with an area to play ball games etc.

Thought it was over priced for what it was. You definitely need a car to get anywhere from this site.

Wouldn't return mainly because being in a motorhome it was difficult to get anywhere without driving.
