We arrived unannounced due to our booked campsite down in the town being under 4 foot of water. Greeted by the owner who was very accommodating. We camped at the top of the field which is a distance from the toilets, but the flattest part of the field. Awesome panoramic views of the lakes and surrounding hills, but a little windy, we broke 2 tent poles.
There is a cafe on site serving basic food, and a great little shop with the basics, There is also another camp shop across the road at the Castlerigg Hall campsite if you need it.
Toilets were great, but don't forget a few 50p pieces. The querky crag inn pub just down the road was amusing but very small if the site is busy.
It is only a 25minute walk down a lovely path to the centre of Keswick then a taxi home was only £4, the walk back would have been a little too steep and dark with a few drinks inside us.
A fantastic find and we will definitely return.

Another great stay at this great site. This was my second visit to this site, as the main requirement is that there is no noise after 2230hrs (even though) it is child and pet friendly.
I must say I was pleasantly surprised when I was charged for one person even though I used my two person tent as opposed to my usual one man tent, a lot of sites have a tendency to charge you for the tent occupancy {in my experience}!
Could I just take this opportunity to thank Barry the Landlord of the Crag Bar for his hospitality too, because no more than camp site owners, local hostelries’ are also a welcome site?
I will definitely stay again. Very soon. Thanks once again. Richard

Having stayed at Castlerigg Hall last year we thought we’d try Castlerigg Farm this time. We stayed here for one night in a tent mid-week, it wasn’t busy. The tent area is generally sloping in varying degrees and the ground was stony causing many short tent pegs to bend.
The field is well kept and open giving a very spacious feel to it with lovely views.
The shower and toilet block are basic but ok, although I can see if it was busy there wouldn’t be enough toilets and showers to go around.
There is nowhere to walk the dog on site although there is a footpath running down the side of the tent field behind the stone wall but one cannot access it from the site, which is a shame and means one has to walk out of the front entrance and back up the lane to then walk the dog (on the lead) along the footpath which cuts along the side of fields with livestock in them.

This was our fourth stay here. It was crowded for jubilee weekend, but tbh I would have been annoyed to be turned away. I had no problems with the toilets but there were queues for washing up. I didn't bother with a shower so can't comment!
We stay here because it's clean, reasonably quiet, and has amazing views of the fells, it's fantastic to come back year on year and look over to where you've climbed or walked and be able to add another piece into the jigsaw. The shop is small but surprisingly well stocked, you could throw the tent in the car and rock up and be able to get a decent meal together from there.
The hayloft cafe was nice, friendly service.
I don't like the Crag bar over the road, it's just grim, cramped without being intimate, needs a good clean and a refurb.
You can walk down a lovely footpath into Keswick and enjoy the town if the rain is too bad!

Overall an excellent site which I came to by accident having thought I was heading for Castlerigg Hall across the road, where I have been before, years ago.
The Castlerigg sites are just too far from Keswick to make it difficult to walk back after an evening painting the town red, so be ready for someone not to drink, or to use the bus. Or use the local (packed) pub.
We had the Jubilee weekend here: mixed temperatures and wind, no rain. The turf at Castlerigg Farm is lovely - short grass with no loose cuttings to walk into the tent. Very clean: litter and dog mess free. Most pitches slope to a greater or lesser extent. Peg insertion is not easy.
We laughed a bit at the incessantly repeated notices about 'silence after 10. 30 pm'. It strikes me that this rule serves principally to prevent certain types of campers (groups of youngsters, basically) from using the site. It does NOT guarantee silence after 10. 30, although the site is genuinely quiet and the general atmosphere is very pleasant.
I hadn't spotted the 50p charge for the 3. 5 minute shower on the site's website, although it is clearly there. Three and a half minutes is a reasonable time for a shower provided that the flow is good and you can get temperature adjusted and stable quite quickly. This is not the case with every shower at Castlerigg. If you wish to maintain a good level of personal hygiene, the 50p charge needs to be factored in to the budget as it will significantly add to the cost of your stay.
During the Jubilee weekend the site was, unsurprisingly, packed. I would say that the numbers present were significantly higher than the shower and toilet facilities could handle. During the course of the weekend the smell in the toilet block worsened, with queues for showers and loos. Toilets in both gents and ladies' loos became blocked: in the gents one cubicle was out of action for at least 8 hours. With only three showers and four toilet cubicles for each sex it is hard to say that the facilities were adequate for the number of people on site.
For us a very positive feature of the site was the Hayloft Cafe - under new management, with a simple menu of good locally sourced food. We ended up eating here three times, appreciating the excellent food, friendly service and reasonable charges, including the £1 corkage. I intend to review the cafe elsewhere.
The site staff are friendly and helpful, and overall I would recommend the site warmly. I can believe that the toilet block troubles were exceptional, due to the Bank Holidays, and may not be a general reflection.

Jubilee weekend.
We expected it to be full, but boy oh boy did the cram em' in.
We have stopped at this campsite 7 times, that tells you we like it. Everything about the sites is great, the field, the toilets/showers, shop, its position, and the views are amazing. So as ever the campsite was good, what you would expect for £25 per night for a family of 4 on a bank holiday weekend.
This has been our usual spring bank trip for many years. So we have seen the full board plenty of times, as we did this year. But this time the word full was used to the max. This was Glastonbury style camping with people sleeping 5 foot apart.
I can understand the owners cashing in, times are hard and if folks want to part with their money, fair play. But if you get stung once you hesitate before returning. I will definitely give castlerigg farm a swerve on bank holidays in future.
