We decided to visit this site on a friends recommendation. They had visited before to stay in a static caravan.

The site is huge which we must admit put us off initially. Although we have stayed at Haven sites in the UK off season we wanted something different from our holiday abroad and were concerned that this was what we were in for. We were very wrong.

Although the site is huge it is so well laid out that you can choose to camp in quieter areas if you wish. We had a large pitch in the Romantische camp and found it to be really peaceful. Initially some of the tight bends in the roads leading to the pitch were hard to negotiate but worth the effort.

The facilities were immaculate. Classical music was played in the toilets every day. We never had to queue for the showers which were free.

The amusement park and Tiki pool was an added bonus for us but some campers seemed to stay on site for their whole two week stay. There is certainly plenty to keep you occupied. We preferred to go out most days to explore the local towns and beach by bike. The routes are second to none. There is a fantastic cycle path which takes you along the coast through the dunes.

Amsterdam is only 30 minutes drive away. We used the park and ride from the Olympic Stadium to get us into the centre and found it really easy.

We would definitely consider returning to Duinrell.

Well what can I say!

Brilliant, brilliant & brilliant.

Had a few issues once off the ferry with no where to park up to join up with our fellow caravanners after passing through passport control. Eventually got sat nav to take to co-ordinates and found parking up at reception with a van on just a little tight at Duinrell.

Checked in and found our very spacious pitch and that was the end of the car use for two whole weeks.

Well equipped shop even if expensive but just 1 mile into town is an aldi which was very cheap.

C1000 supermarket in the town with plenty of other shops.

Toilets and showers where very clean but only 6 showers and about 10 toilets but only queued up once in the whole fortnight to shower.

Make sure you take your bike as we spent our whole 2 weeks on them and did around 200miles going to leiden, The hauge, beach and other places.

Bus tickets can be purchased on the bus at 4 euros for either 1 stop or 10. Children under 12 2 euros.

We did a day trip to Amsterdam(3) and cost 4 euros to leiden(20mins) and 16. 50 euros on the train(35mins) you could park and ride for 8 euros but didn't fancy taking the car out as fuel was 173. 9c. We will venture out in the car next yr as we wish to go to de eftling theme park around 55miles away.

We are planning our return next yr and at 550 for 2 adults and 1 child inc ferry and theme park entry at Duinrell found it excellent value for our cash.

What a disappointment! Having stayed here several times in the late 90s, we were really looking forward to going back. We arrived on site and check in was fast and efficient. We were directed to our pitch (Pardewie 11) On arrival at the camping area, we found that our 100m comfort pitch was a cramped corner without the advertised water tap. The campers opposite were 3 young men who had a brazier between our pitch and theirs which they spent most of the night burning branches on. The last one went to bed at 5 am! The next day I complained to security who promised to speak to them - don't know what they said but we were still awake at 2 am on Sunday morning and awake again at 4. 30 when the seagulls and Jackdaws were fighting over the food left around the fire. Went to reception and complained again. We were told they were leaving that day so no more problem. What they omitted to tell us was that there was a school party of around 50 children arriving on Wednesday and camping opposite us. The noise all day and well into the night was unbelievable! Having phoned and called security out several times, I finally demanded to speak to someone in authority. I was told that I should have come in high season as the schools are not there then! I was given a letter offering me 30 per cent discount for next year - nothing would tempt me to go back. On the day we left, we were packed and on the docks at 11. 45 for a 2. 30 ferry - preferred the docks to another morning on the pitch. The facilities on the site are very good and the Attractiepark and Tikibad are wonderful but when a site says quiet between 11pm and 7 am, that is what I expect and what I did not get at Duinrell. Not cheap - it was by far the most I paid for a site in 6 weeks in Holland and not worth a quarter of the money I paid.

Stayed over the May half term, and had a very enjoyable week.

We stayed with Canvas in a two bed classic with decking. It was very cramped I must say, with very little room to move in the bedrooms, and the shower in the bathroom was ridiculously small.

The seating in the main dining area wasn't very comfortable either, and the back cushions kept coming away, making sitting for any length of time pretty uncomfortable.

Also, unlike the last Canvas van we stayed in, it didn't have a microwave which was a real pain. Although we paid a very reasonable price for our week, in hindsight I would rather have paid a bit more for those little extras which would have made our stay more comfortable.

Anyway, lesson learnt. We will ensure that we book a higher spec mobile when staying with Canvas again.

The campsite itself was pretty busy. Although not uncomfortably so, considering it was school holidays in the uk, and there was also a steady stream of Dutch and German schoolchildren visiting the park daily on school trips.

We never queued for very long for the rides in the theme park, though, although the water park was a different story!

We only visited once this time, and were put off by how crowded it was, the silly behaviour of some of the kids in there and the lack of supervision by the staff. Also, the changing facilities are very cramped, and not particularly pleasant or user friendly.

I'm sure there were probably quieter times we could have gone in, but we were pretty busy doing stuff off site for most of our stay this time anyway so it wasn't a huge priority!

We didn't use the site facilities, but were staying right next to them, so I went to have a look and to check them out. I must say they were impressive. Lots of toilets, spacious showers, washing machines, ironing boards and irons, - all spotless clean.

The few times I had a nosey in were never busy.

We didn't eat on the site at all, but did most of our own cooking back at the van. We had a nice meal out in Wassener, (la scala), once, as well as a good one (also italian) in Leiden, on a day out there.

We also ate loads of gorgeous ice cream from the great Lucianos in the centre of Wassener. A visit is a must if you are staying at Duinrell.

Only used the shop on site a couple of times for basic provisions. It's vey well stocked, but more expensive than the main supermarket (c1000) in the centre of Wassener. There's also a vey good Aldi which we have used a few times.

We didn't venture in to Amsterdam this time, as been many times before. Visited Leiden, and the nearby seaside town of Schevenigen. It's got a lovely beach, with lots of nice places to eat, - be great on a hot day, but was rather cold and windswept when we visited.

All in all, we had a very enjoyable week. Weather was fairly mixed, but mainly dry, and sunny. Only had one day of rain. Got to be happy with that in Holland!

Stayed here for 5 nights at end of August, pitched in the Romantisch part of the campsite. The pitch was fine, and the sandy soil drained very quickly. Although there were plenty of people on site, it didn't feel too crowded or busy, maybe because it is the tailend of the season. Although noisy during the day, from about 11pm to 8am it seemed surprisingly quiet. Washing facilities were very good, never had to queue and showers were hot. Our kids loved the theme park and were there every day, there were hardly any queues to get on the rides. They also enjoyed the swimming pool.

The supermarket was well stocked, but around 50% more expensive than the local supermarkets (there is one about 10 mins walk away in the town: C1000). You can hire bikes and go-karts on the site, and there is a lovely cycle ride to the beach, 5kms away. I tried walking it, but managed to get lost in the dunes as the footpaths tend to loop around - if you want to go direct, you have to stick to the bike path (takes about 45 mins to walk). The beach is clean and there are some cafes there as well.

We also travelled into The Hague one day, but made the mistake of going by bus - handy as it stops outside the campsite, but very expensive as they don't do child rates, so it cost us nearly 30 euros to get to the city and back. We wished we had driven in instead. We went to the Escher museum which was very good, but the main art gallery (which usually displays The Girl with the Pearl Earring) is closed long-term for renovation.

Wassenaar is a lovely town - try to visit the ice-cream parlour (turn left at the square with the triangle seating area), if you buy a hot drink they clip a mini ice-cream onto it.

Just returned from Camping and Caravan Club Rally here. Spent 6 nights on this site and it was a fantastic experience.

The site itself is huge. There are shower/toilet blocks dotted around with plenty of facilities and always being cleaned.

There is a good supermarket on site, along with a restaurant and bar. The restaurant do an all-you-can-eat buffet for about 19Euro, arrive early and eat well.

The town is walking distance and very pleasant. As you enter the first tiangle-shaped area, the Italian restaurant on the left is lovely. Venture further into the town - if you see a Chinese restaurant called 'Legends' - stay out! It is awful.

Site pool - the only disappointment for me was there was no pool solely for campers, the free outdoor pool and the Tikibad waterpark can all be accessed by paying visitors to the theme park. However, the outdoor pool was nice and not that crowded.

Tikibad water park - Ace. Don't underestimate the speed of these slides, they are fantastic.

Theme park - superb. Free to use by campers again and again and some real quality rides, the queues were ok too.

Beach - there is a beach a short drive/cycle away - very clean and some nice snack bars on entrance, well worth a visit.

I would definitely go back here to hit the attractions for a few days and then move on, but don't think I would do another week there. Highly recommended for a crazy time and the kids (old and young) will love it.

I scored this holiday highly on value for money, but I did pay 'Rally' prices. Still - definitely one to put on your list of places to go.
