Just returned from a very enjoyable 4 nights.

Staff very welcoming once checked in we were shown round the site and taken to our pitch. All pitches are on level terraces of grass and pea gravel. We struggled with a couple of pegs so next time will take more suitable ones.

Plenty of water taps around the site. Washing up areas where very clean with a laundry room with free iron.

Toilet block were heated with free hot showers, hairdryers and plenty for the whole site never had to wait once. Additional to these were free family bathrooms which are ideal for little ones. Both were well maintained. Fridge, freezer and microwave is also available and free to use.

The kids had their own play area consisting of adventure playground and enough space for several games of footie.

The bar was lovely with its log burning fire, everything £3. 20 a pint we only popped in the 1 night when a couple of youngsters were singing and sat in the soft play area upstairs with the little ones. The older kids had fun in the downstairs games room with air hockey, table tennis and footie table this was adjacent to the tv room.

The shop had the basics but Morrisons is only a 15 minute drive away at Penrith.

The site was all quiet by 10.30-11 pm but we sat having a chat outside the tent until 11. 30, a couple further round had apparently been asked to keep the noise down after this but we never heard a thing.

We will definitely be back to this site hopefully in the very near future and might even try out their camping pods.

We visited this site for 5 nights over the August Bank Holiday and stayed in a camping pod.

While the Ullswater area is quiet the site is not. It was packed throughout our stay. It would appear that we misunderstood the title of the campsite.

The campsite itself is nice. The toilet/shower block were nice, clean and tidy at all times. One problem was that the toilet/shower block was surrounded by the static caravans and the main users ie caravans/tents/camping pods were some distance from these utilities. Not a nice trek at 3 in the morning.

The shop stocked the basics, however one morning they had no milk and we were told that it would be at least 11am until they had some. This was at 8am.

The bar is lovely. Nice roaring fire and a good selection of beers. The beers are around £3 for a pint or a bottle. A little expensive.

And on the last night the prices went up another 20p.

The camping pod was excellent and I recommend trying this form of camping. We normally use a tent but fancied a change.

Would we visit the Lake District again Yes.

Would we visit The Quiet Site again No.

We have just had a 4 day camp at the quiet site and even though a bit more costly than most lake district camps we have used it was very fulfilling to all our needs.

The area was fantastic and it had various outlets to surrounding fells and walks.

The site was very clean and on arriving we were shown to our pitch by a young man pointing out various does and don'ts. We had a good look round and it had a nice shop selling most needs and a converted barn like pub which was very handy.

The showers were 100% and even a separate bath room which enabled a nice soak after a day out walking.

We had a dog and the site had a nice long walking field so the pets could do there stuff and clean up system is well in place and runs smooth.

The site rules are very well documented and easy to stick to. The site was not as Quiet as you would think for the price because of the children been on holiday.

Overall we will give it 8/10 and only the price of the pitch seemed steep.

The site is in a great place to tour around the area. The facilities are very good and I thought it was a great idea to have fridges & freezers people could use. I've never seen this before. The toilets & showers are spotless and the people are very friendly.

There is a down side & we may have been unlucky but this certainly isn't a 'quiet site', We were led to believe that after a certain time of night, peace & quiet would prevail so you could get some sleep but many people stayed up until the early hours. Although we did have a great time as there is loads to do & see, we came away exhausted due to lack of sleep.

I think it would be a good idea for the owners to remind people when they arrive about the rules.

The site is easy to find and located about 1. 5 miles uphill from the main road along Ullswater lake, affording some nice view as you go up. The site is on an incline, but has been terraced to allow flat camping and parking of caravans.

The camping areas were quite good, but campers must ensure they notify the site of tent size when booking. The site, generally, was well maintained.

On our visit there were mainly campers.

The toilet block/showers were good in themselves, regularly cleaned and presentable. However, during any nocturnal visits it was surprising how far they were from some tents!

I come to my only real criticism. My wife told me that the ladies area was good with hair drying facilities etc, but the men's area had no shaver points and no hair-drying facilities. There were surprisingly few toilets/showers for the number of campers.

The on site bar was OK, though an upstairs children's play area did deter you from staying too long. No food was on offer at the bar area.

The office/site shop was adequate. I guess, like ourselves, many campers take some of their own supplies. A charge was made for charging mobile telephones and areas of the site had free wif-fi.

The staff were all helpful and courteous and I did like the touch of accompanying people to their particular pitch.

This was our second visit to this site. First was many years ago. Facilities on site have improved and terraced pitches on the camping field.

Quiet site it def wasn't this stay. Lots of noise from other pitches well after midnight. Sound of chainsaws etc to wake to at 8am etc.

There is a strict one way traffic system with a speed limit in force I was told when we arrived only to find no-one adhering to it especially the staff cutting trees down.

Bar was only open when they thought it worthwhile and its a long walk to the nearest pub so that was a bit of a disappointment. When it was open they had little beer due to a delivery problem.

Mixed visit. Don't think we will be back. Good site for others but not for us.

Spent 2 nights here in mid May, as our first ever site with our 2 children (1 and 7). The weather was atrocious, with 2 tents on the site raised to the ground during the second evening. It was forecast so we went prepared and our tent (Outwell Wyoming) hardly wobbled. The site itself was great. Flat pitches, easy to peg, and the views are fantastic. Follow directions from their webpage and you'll find easily. The on site bar is perfect if you have children, as you can enjoy a refreshing ale while the kids hang out in the soft play. Very friendly and clean site, shop is limited to basic provisions.

First visit to this site. Easy to access if you follow directions from sites homepage. Nice site and good layout, albeit we were a little disappointed with our pitch, which whilst it was close to amenities it was rather a small pitch> If your thinking of booking with a caravan I would definitely ask for a pitch that overlooks the play area, its not too close but they seem quite spacious and have good views.

Everything else about site is just fab, the bar is nice and not overpriced like a lot of the local pubs.

Showers and toilets are first class and some of best we have used.

We were blessed with great weather so didn't really do a lot as kis to young to go on long hikes. We did visit nearby Aria waterfalls which is well worth the visit and nearby Pooley Bridge and Patterdale are also pleasant villages.

All in all a nice site that we will definitely revisit.

Only spent one night here but wish it had been longer. The Quiet Site is exactly that. No noisy groups and not over run with children.

The toilet and shower block where the best I have ever seen with plenty of hot water. Pitches a little too far away from toilets.

The pub was amusing with a warm log fire and one or two stuffed animals around. Pool table was interesting but fun.

Lots to do in surrounding area and plenty of pubs if you don't fancy cooking. Enjoyed The Ramblers and Travellers pubs in Glenridding.

Having been sponsored by The Quiet Site for two week's stay for a charity expedition, it's only right that I leave a review of this site! The site's location is about 15mins walk from the northern shore of Ullswater, and about 20mins drive from Penrith, in the hills surrounding Little Mell Fell.

We had a caravan, motorhome and a tent, and all three were brilliantly catered for. Only a short distance to the water fill-up points, drain points and a motorhome waste point near the entrance to the site, so this was easy to sort out.

We also had hookup points (though limited to 6Amp each - approx. 1320Watts) within easy reach. The two pitches we had were hardstanding gravel/slate, though pea-shingle/grass pitches for tents alone were also available.

The shop was refitted with more items during our stay, and the bar was warm and inviting in the evenings. All the staff we met were fantastic, really helpful and friendly even when things went a little awry - we had some very heavy rain when we got there, but they helped with additional drainage on our pitches which worked for the rest of our 2 week stay!

The only other issue we had was wind: we were positioned in the middle of the site and the wind seemed to come down the hill from a valley near the top, but lots of new trees have been planted recently so once they establish themselves that should help as a windbreak. Just keep an eye out for this if you're pitching up or in a large tent/trailer tent - we saw one large tent destroyed, and a trailer tent be taken down quickly on one evening - both families were given pods fr the rest of their stay though, thanks to fast acting staff.

Other facilities on site were kept in really clean conditions, with the kitchen & washing facilities as well as the toilets, showers & bathrooms kept clean and simple yet fully functional. A hot bath or shower after a day in the mountains was greatly appreciated, no matter what time we got back!

As well as the small shop on site, and a few local shops nearby, the nearest supermarkets are either in Keswick or Penrith, with Penrith being the nearer of the two. As for pubs, practically every village has one, though we didn't get to many due to the amount of walking we were doing, so enjoyed the bar on site instead!

Mountain-wise, the Scafell Massif was about 2.5hrs drive away via Ambleside or an hour or so via Cockermouth, the Helvellyn range from Thirlmere about an hour or 30mins from the Ullswater side, and Blencathra to Skiddaw was about 30mins drive away. We found this to be a great site position-wise to get to all of these ranges (we were climbing the 16 highest mountains!), as long as you don't get easily car sick - the long way round to Ambleside via Keswick, and Wast Water via Cockermouth would be better if that's the case!

Overall, we were all greatly impressed by the site and would definitely consider returning there again in the future!
